Some actual tips:
If you are a beginner start with microlights, not inovas. They are lighter and its much easier to start off with. orbitlightshow.com for 3led ones that display 7 colors for only 7$ and free shipping. Same cost as inovas you just gotta wait for the mail. As far as i know you can only put together 2 inovas for an orbit (unless someone knows how to do more, iv tried a couple ways but it always ends up unbalanced not to mention heavy as fuck) but you can use up to 6 microlights. Inova low setting looks sweet with the dotted effect if you do go that route. Put one on high and one on low and it will be sweet. If you want a microlight that has that effect you need a photon freedom which will cost you 20$ (but freedoms can do ANY brightness so you can do dots or lil lines and everything inbetween). I find the strobe setting on the invoas to be pretty useless in orbits.. just me tho If you want a smooth transition from unwinding to spinning big circles, get it wound up and then stretch it slowly, you can make bigger shapes this way and the lights wont get wound again by themselves so you can transition to spinning smoothly. It also makes MUCH nicer stars if youre having trouble with em. thats all i can think of now. good luck o yea and i found some rainbow colored string at home depot if youre lookin to be artsy. I think it looks fuckin sweet. ![]() Last edited by gadesxion; 9.5.2008 at 4:36 pm. Reason: automerged doublepost |

BTW someone needs to stick some ravn2's together for an orbit. I know you probably don't want a $40 light spinning around super fast and possibly hitting someone, and I'm sure it'd be hard to balance, but imagine how epic that thing would be... If anyone is cool enough to do this, then please post videos and pictures. Honestly just imagine that thing! |

12 modes with 8 settings for each... 96 possible variations on the same light. Now strap two of those together for an orbit and you hav 9216 possible variations for your orbit... start spinning! |

hah. it says powered by 2 AA batteries tho.. they might be kinda big and heavy for an orbit.. maybe? il have to see. regardless my freehand shows are gonna be siick.

I'm going to have to disagree, the microlights from orbitlightshow are pieces of shit. 1, they are not very bright, 2, the batteries only last 2 hours at TOPS. trust me i was so pissed when i went to how sweet and my thing started dying. i made the orbit the night before anyways, so it wasnt my fault. Inovas are the way to go, you're right tho, it is alot heavier, but you get used to it. |

yea i like the inovas too. sux about ur microlights. and i was thinkin of gettin like three microlights.... but i dunno now. plus i love the dot mode too.
i think orbits look MILLION times better either in a overexposed photograph or when ur rollin. lol but i think thats obvious. ![]() |

Not bad for your first go!! only thing that may make it a bit easier for you is starting off with vertical orbits,,, also placing two fingers in the inside of your string. (yes it hurts but for some reason i was able to get more control with my inovas that way) Target is the way to go for inovas but they only have blue and white. Hit up FRyS in Fountain Valley for the green and red inovas!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I just made my first orbit. I started with white and pink, but because I put a pink inside a blue inova case, you see blue/pink/white on one side while it spins, while on the other side you can only see white/pink. So now I understand what the guy above said when he saw blue and pink still. Just means put the pink in a white clear case not the blue clear case.
Also my shoulders are fucking tired. I also noticed just now that inovas have a turn off timer? Is that correct? Spinning for a while and either both or one light will turn off. EDIT/UPDATE: I was just making some perfect 5 point stars with both inovas on the low setting (dot mode). I'm having trouble with my nylon string. One knot always comes undone after a while. It pisses me the fuck off. I'll be having fun the all of a sudden the orbit just looses all tension and drops. I'm left holding onto a a couple lights hanging from a string, and an empty key ring in the other hand. You can imagine the disappointment. |
