![]() It is true that your tonsils are not a necessity to living, such as your lungs or heart are, however that doesn't render them entirely useless. In fact, if you look at the location of your tonsils and adenoids, you'll notice they are located near the entrance to your breathing passages. Their purpose is to catch sample bacterial viruses (which can become infections) to help your body form antibodies of those viruses which will become your "natual" immunity later. It's the natural version of a flu shot. When you're given the shot by a doctor, they are injecting a weak sample of the virus into your blood stream, for your body to fight off before you get sick. Your tonsils take samples and defeat them early, leaving antibodies that are your "natural immunity". Alot of doctors believe your tonsils aren't needed after about the age of three, because by then you've been exposed to most bacterias and built the basis for your natural immunity. There's no proof that a person will be any less healthy without them after the first few years of life - that would be why it's perfectly safe for Pink Panther not to have them. Therefore it is only half true that you "don't need them" : if you didn't need them, you body wouldn't have made them. /Mei Jewleh: teachin' them rave kids since Jan 06 ![]() |

I had my tonsils taken out when I was 17. I had tonsilitis too many times so my Doc said that it was time to take them out. You're asleep for the whole thing. They gave me some stuff to drink and all I can remember was that I felt really drunk and stoned, and them whelling me off. It kind of sucks when you wake up, but they give you popsicles. Then after you're home it's hard to eat anything at all, but you should have some medicine to take---codeine---which will help with the pain. If your Doc wants you to have them removed, just go with it, it's not that bad.
