help with cubase

So I just got CuBase and installed it on my computer. I set up my MIDI controller as well. CuBase shows that it is connected and when I hit a note the MIDI connection shows that there is activity. However there is a lag between the time I hit a note and hearing a sound. This also happens when I use a VST soft synth like the monolouge, so I know it isn't just the controller/MIDI connection. Also, I am having trouble acessing the sound banks on my synths. I want to be able to use them however I can't seem to get them to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

What sound card/sound interface are you using? Chances are you need to go in and set your AISO latency, if your card supports that.

CuBase is also a resource hog to no ends. You need a halfway decent machine to run it.
