What are your memories of these places. I assume they've all been shut down for awhile.

A brief description from my memories from around the year 2000 - 2002.

Masterdome

The Dome was in San Bernardino. When you entered this venue, you'd see the circular ceiling above, with a ring surrounding the main arena. It was a small place that got unbearably hot at times. The main problem with this area was the getting into the dome and outside into the smoking/air area. Just imagine driving on a one way street in SF/LA and seeing it become a two-lane disaster up ahead. Still, this is where I first saw Thee-O and Nicholas Bennison Spin and heard the anthemic Yomanda - Synths & Strings:

Fox Theatre

Since I lived in the town over, Pomona was often a spot I went to at the last minute when the urge to party came over me. It is literally an old movie theatre with seats and space for a large movie screen. There's an upper deck where you could scope out the whole light shows and a dance floor that would slope downwards. At 5am when I would head to the parking lot, I'd turn around for a last look at the Fox and see Lucha Libre being advertised in the headlines for the next show. This is where I first listened to R.A.W. and went to my first free hardcore show.

La Casa
(Hmm, couldn't dig up a pick, but it was this huge old building, right
across the street from [another?] abandoned church. Spooky!)

Downtown LA, this place had wooden floors and a huge empty dance floor. I was told it was an abondoned church, as the place was a gigantic rectangle. The place was flooded with black lights and had the most air being circulated. Oxygen is always good. Still had black booger s though. It was the first place I listened to Christopher Lawrence who played more the more 'darker' drive trance.

Security was shadiest/most lenient? at La Casa. They used to card at their discretion, but a five spot under your school ID would work.

I always had a blast with my biology book out, studying with my friend at 9pm in my car while music was being setup and pumped behind La Casa.

Party for a bit, sometimes buzzed, sometimes sober, but we would leave around 4am and off to Denny's to study more.

Eyes dilated in history class, seeing tracers, but kicking ass at school because people were still more stupid than us even when we were on drugs..

I'll miss you after-rave black boogers.

My first LA gig ever was at La Casa. I remember that the echo/reverb made it tough to mix. I played next to opening set. Very few people were there. Many great memories at that spot.

The Fox was always a hit and miss with me. I loved the venue itself. Aside from it always being so damned hot. The seats were chill, though. I loved roaming the balcony areas. Sometimes we would ride the train from SD to Pomona (the train station was a couple blocks away). Good times.

The Dome... What can I say about that place that hasn't already been said. It was my home away from home. Straight shot up the I-15 from SD. Far too many good times to list. In all honesty, in layout, I thought it was the best venue for raving. The main dancefloor was sunken down from main traffic on the sides. The bleachers made great spots to chill (or make out with your e-girlfriend/boyfriend). The side areas were good for other genres and still isolated (no sound clash) from the main sound. Then you had the outside (usually the jungle/breaks area) that was well lit and wide open. Excellent spot to "meet people".

Sadly, there aren't many venues like those anymore.

Ah, balcony roaming at the Fox.

And outside when the sun came up, I would see a girl only in her undergarments using a blanket as a cape, sailing across the parking lot on a long board.

Masterdome fills me with hot & sweaty nightmares, but it made squeezing through the crush of people all the more exhilarating when you taste that cool air outside. And yep, DNB/Breaks outside.

To Twisted, I never thought of riding the train from pomona to SD. When I heard about parties in SD, it seemed like they were located on another planet back then.
