Me and my girl live right outside of Savannah(unfortunaltely) cause we're in the army. I was spinnin' a set last night at a house party, and to make a short story shorter...I quit in the middle cause everyone kept comin' up and asking me if I had anything other than "techno." Well, I don't even spin techno...anybody reading this knows there's a difference. Anyways, they absolutley NEEDED rap, so needless to say the vibe wasn't there....so I said "fuck it!" spun my record backwards slammed down my channel, packed up and bounced. Just had to get off my chest and my mind.
Peace and chicken grease, suspect. |

I hate that shit. Isn't that the whole purpose of going out and listening to a dj play is to expand your mind/ horizons, or whatever, not to hear the same old bullshit.
If you want to listen to stuff you want to hear all the time, listen to your cd's at home. |

I know what you mean. B/c we live in America they always classify everything as techno. "Its all techno right?" I mostly listen to DnB and the "outsiders" call that techno too.
Its all techno to those wankers I bet they wouldnt know the difference between breakz and techno. Ps-what were you spinning? |

Yeah, but what if I know the difference between a techno track(derrick may), A house track(dj sneek), A funky breaks (huda hudia) a Uk breaks (stanton warriors) A battle breaks (scratchy seal) etc... etc and I still call it techno. I don't think thats the problem here. I think the problem is too many people just aren't effected by the underground beats enough. So what do they want? Top 40 shit man. Forget about people who know whats up because they will know what you are playing and like it anyway. It's somebodys grandma or the hip soccermoms the people who don't know whats up can be converted. Now burn you off some more of those baddass cds and start handing out to everybody not just the good lookin chicks or the stoner ravy lookin dudes. Give it to that nerdy cat that likes yugioh and power rangers. Techno, it's hiteck soul, man.

I dig what you're saying....I had a strangely close enough encounter a the little party I spun at concerning this topic. Some cat who went by the name of "Cowboy Bob" inquired about one of my demos....he fits your, "know not a damn thing about EDM guy" despcription....I think I wanted him to have a CD more than anything.

My big thing is Happy Hardcore music, which sometimes i go back and forth between calling it "Happy Hardcore" or just plainly "Hardcore". Well, when if I use the term "Happy Hardcore", people think I am talking about kids music, and if I call it "Hardcore", they think I am talking about metal/rock music....Americans are so lame
On a side note, I am just fine with Electronic music not being big with a lot of people, think about it, do you really want the kind of people that listen to hip hop and rap, country, etc. in on our scene, I mean, I know some ravers have music intrest outside Electronica, but to the ppl who sit and say they hate "techno" and just listen to music because its the "cool music", I could care less if they say they hate "techno" and I am just fine with them not being in what little scene we have, we dont need anymore negative vibes than what we already have. I believe that Electronic music is designed to send you to another world, to put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step. I also believe that only certain people are true electronic heads, like us, the ones who actually LOVE to hear the "same thing over and over" and "nothing but noise" music. We take that step beyond what's in front of us and dance with thousands of strangers which quickly become friends, and what kind of music builds such a positive vibe, Electronica. Whether you're a candy kid (like me), a Cyber Raver, or just a regular ol' raver, we are there for the same reason, to support our hard working DJs and of course, listen to the boom boom boom of Electronic music and throw our hands up in the air and let all of our problems go, and dont forget to give hugs out before you leave ![]() |
