I was born and raised on the East Coast and have been bouncing up and down between NYC/Philly/B'more/DC for sometime. Grew up with beats, having caught west coast dj sets many times (doc martin, hardkiss, spun, dj dan, etc) and love to dance. That all being said.
Can someone give me a history of the San Diego scene? Who's the "god father", who's been spinning/resident the longest with the most respect? New talent, who's the up and coming dj? Who are the promoters I need to look out for? Where's the best venue? Kinda the same question, I am talking sound system now, who has the best sound? Any scratch collectives in SD? For the masses, any Drum-n-Bass and MC collectives? Any weeklys in need to check? Any monthlys I need to check? Warehouse parties, do they exist? Where do you buy your vinyl? Can anyone recommend any websites/mailing lists I should check out? Thanks. I am just feeling it out, getting feel for the scene. |

Parties are mostly in L.A.....The San Diego underground has been kinda dead since 02. I moved to Boston 7 months ago, so I'm outta touch with the little underground there actually is left. There are some desert parties that still go on and some Psytrance parties in the mountains occasionally. Just keep your eyes and ears out.
The place I used to buy all my records from when out of business 2 years ago, and I haven't found a truely decent place since. Good luck! The DnB scene is getting huge in SD and there are a lot of good DJ's that are coming up. Peligro, I think it is? He's pretty good. Again, they're around, just keep a look out for flyers and ears open for word of mouth. I'm coming down to SD in 2 weeks, and all my friends know what's up with the scene. The next big massive is EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) in LA. If your interest, check out electricdaisycarnival.com. If your interested and need a ride and some peeps to chill with, hit me up.
