I was visiting Jakarta for work a couple years ago and was astonished at the number of huge techno and rave clubs in the city. I was there during *Ramadan* and found myself staying out until 4 and 5 AM all too often. And the places were packed, I would guess 2,000 or 3,000 people at the places I visited. The whole thing blew my mind because elsewhere in SE Asia its 1 or 2 AM closing (e.g. Bangkok & Saigon), and pretty much the same in the States. Very lame.
Anyway I was able to keep up with it from afar for a while through Beat magazine, which unfortunately seems to have gone totally Bali in recent months (it was about 50/50, Bali/Jakarta) before. Does anyone have any experience or tips or further info on the Jakarta scene? If nothing else i'd like to keep up with it vicariously from back here in America. Luv that Kuta Hard House! Thanks, Geeyore |

. I still have a vivid memory of everything there tho, including the alah wak bar prayers. It was a long time ago that we lived there (1994-1996) so people were a lot nicer to americans then. But don't get me wrong i don't blame them for their hate of the gringos.Do you think you will ever move back there? |

I miss the food also, but mi mama brought two suit cases full of food this past summer, because she went back. Remember beng-beng, or silver queen?
, I have tonz, and since my parents are indonesian, I eat Indo food almost everyday. I am from So-cal. i used to be in love with Indomie, especially with baso. |

The jakarta clubbing scene? Check out [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. There's a shitload.
The big places, in order of popularity, are : Stadium - 5 floors of Hell. Clientele : Uber rich to uber poor. No one gives a shit here. Drugs everywhere and the place is dripping with chicks. Played here : Sasha. The best local tribal DJs mix here. hard progressive, hard tribal. 2nd floor is covered with demon heads, the 4th floor has a dragon hanging from the ceiling. Stadium is THE must-go place in se asia. X2 - (Progressive, Tribal, downstairs) / Equinox (R&B, hiphop, upstairs.) Clientele : Middle to upper, chic. Played here : Tiesto. K7 - Only been there once, during Armin van Buuren's perf. Similar to X2 but bigger. Played here : van Buuren. Then you have the starter clubs : Dragonfly : Upper class, ponce joint. If you look fit, you can almost guarantee yourself some model pickups here. Latin -> Progressive -> Tribal. NEO & Vanity : Very upper class, new. Live -> progressive at late hours. Centro : Primarily frequented by university students. If you're after young, here's the place. That stigma doesn't exist in indo, if that's your thing. Electro, Hiphop, Progressive. Depends on the day. Embassy : Glitzy, frequently hosts fashion shows. Electro -> progressive. Wonderbar : Dark, dingy, downstairs from Embassy. The opposite. The list can go on and on and on and on. There's a reason many tourists and expats don't get around to going home, or eventually return. |
