MANIFESTO presents: a benefit party for 3rd Ward Bike Shop 11/9/07
Inspired by Detroit's Underground Resistance collective, a music production company whose mission is to inspire youths to create and become independent, the Manifesto collective is throwing a benefit party for local organization Workshop Houston. In much the same way Manifesto seeks to expose local club culture to new sounds and positive atmosphere, Workshop Houston provides youths with new experiences and positive environments that may not otherwise be available to them. Manifesto hopes to provide a significant monetary contribution to the Workshop as well as raise awareness for the organization and set a precedent for connecting dance music positively to the community at large.
About the Event
Manifesto's benefit for Workshop Houston takes place on November 9th, 2007. Doors open at 10PM and admission is free. A $10 donation is suggested. All proceeds from the night will be donated to Workshop Houston.
About Workshop Houston
(see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for more info)
Workshop Houston builds the foundations for empowered communities through creative and enriching activities for youth. Workshop Houston has five shops that provide artistic, technical and academic resources: the Chopper Shop (welding and metal fabrication), the Beat Shop (music production), the Style Shop (fashion design), the Third Ward Bike Shop (do-it-yourself bike repair), and the Scholar Shop (academic tutoring). Their programs use hands-on projects and dynamic collaborative processes to create an environment in which youth explore new knowledge and power on their own terms.
About Manifesto
Manifesto is a monthly event organized by a collective of local DJs who are passionate about forward-thinking music. In addition to showcasing avant-garde techno and house music from all around the world, Manifesto seeks to make a positive impact in the community outside of the nightclub.
Manifesto takes place on the second Friday of every month at The Mink Backroom in midtown Houston (3718 Main Street at Alabama). Resident DJs Jeffery Mac, Chris Costello, Jessica Partin and Sasha Braverman have been promoting dance music in Houston and other cities since the mid 1990s.
