HIPP-E ---> House Room (Nightshift, NRK) After years of parties and inspiration from other DJ's and Producers, Hipp-e decided it was time to try his hand at making music that better suit the left-coast of the United States. Teaming up with partner Halo, the two produced a hybrid sound that paired the jackin' beats of Chicago with the smoked out sounds of the Pacific. Known as the H-Foundation and 6400 Crew, they produced tracks for Siesta Music in their new home of San Diego, their new friends at Soma in Glasgow, label giant Hooj Choons, and even for the East coast legends at Yoshitoshi. As a result, they drew the attention of the world to the self-contained music industry of the West coast. The next phase of his skyrocketing career saw him able to take his sound to the world in the form of his legendary DJ sets. Playing slots at Fabric London, Turbo Toronto, Zouks Singapore, Soma Glasgow, Twilo New York, More Amsterdam Pacha Buenos Aires, and Allenby Tel-Aviv turned the heads of the clubbers who thought they had seen and heard it all. His sets at raves in New Zealand, Montreal, Turkey, Croatia, Spain, Brazil and all over the United States have reintroduced the concept that prime-time doesn't mean prime-speeds and has the ravers listening for a change. With a DJ schedule that shows no signs of slowing down, and a resume that already puts him at the top of his field, and an ever growing potential in the studio, Hipp-e will continue to realize his dreams and inspire the rest of the industry. Over the past five years the genre has been broken, recast and mutated into perhaps the most aggressive and visceral manifestation of music today. The Atlanta-based artists Evol Intent are among the greatest purveyors of the incendiary, modern jungle sound. Operating as a three-piece power troupe (comprised of Knick, Gigantor and the Enemy), they have produced some of the most ephemeral and progressive drum ‘n' bass to date. The outfit's uncompromising and inimitable drum tirades left an indelible mark on the U.S. scene and the globe at large. Birthed out of the hardcore-punk culture, the trio developed a unique method for wrecking sound systems. The Evol Intent approach is unmistakable. It utilizes incredibly dynamic drum mechanics, razor sharp edits, sawtooth synths and an element of discord resonant of their punk youth. In a very short period of time the group has amassed a substantial discography while recording for their own Evol Intent label as well as numerous prestigious imprints such as Renegade Hardware, Outbreak and Human. Having begun Evol Intent Recordings in 2000, Knick and Gigantor were determined to create a conduit suitable for their own productions as well as those by friends and like-minded producers. Very shortly, the Enemy joined ranks via the Internet and eventually relocated to contribute to the growing movement. Armed with several "self-produced" releases, a host of regional performances and recognition by the acclaimed publications Remix and Knowledge, the next level of success was but an imminent conquest. Tracks like "Seven Angels for Seven Plagues," "Red Soil" and "Where's the Score (Remix)" began generating serious buzz on the dubplate circuit; which in turn yielded the affection of bona fide artists like Technical Itch and Dylan. In addition to being championed by the genre's elite, acknowledgement and recognition from the esteemed Trouble On Vinyl music group would soon follow. With the Evol Intent label's acquisition of world wide distribution (initially via Alpha Magic), a high exposure 12" release on Outbreak, and signing to the exalted Renegade Hardware…the group's rampant development was unparalleled. Releases on the provocative TOV sub-label, Barcode, and a remix of the Future Cut anthem, "Ghetto Style," furthered the crew's burgeoning development. With a compelling amount of quality releases and respect from the media, the trio took their gospel to nearly every corner of the globe. Extensive worldwide touring from Atlanta to Australia embedded the Evol Intent doctrine in the ears and sound systems of dozens of nations. Underground superstardom may well be an understatement, but the importance of Evol Intent in contemporary drum ‘n' bass is simply undeniable. Beats that think, beats that hurt… Evol beats nonetheless. As a teenage raver full of passion for music she bought her turntables in early 1996 and began playing out less than a year later. Her early sets generated curiosity as one of few female DJs at the time but Reid quickly came to earn respect for her skills and wicked selection in the highly competitive NYC scene. By the summer of '97 she was a resident of rave promoters Stuck on Earth and the following year a member of the Direct Drive crew. She relocated to Los Angeles in 2002, and now with partner Josh David she currently co-hosts "Breakdown" which is both a party and a radio show on ibreaks.co.uk every Monday from 6-8 PM PST. Breakdown the Party's guests have included Krafty Kuts, The Rogue Element, Deekline, Lee Coombs, Ctrl -Z & Screwface, Autobotz, NAPT, Aquasky, Baby Anne. In the spring of 2001, after thirteen self released mix tapes and one animated short movie for Showtime's Shonext channel, "Resonance" was released by Breakbeat Science. The mix garnered massive critical praise in publications like URB, Fader, Flaunt, and Paper, and was a commercially successful debut. In support of the release, a 40 date tour sponsored by Mixer magazine introduced her sound to an even wider audience. Immediately after wrapping that tour, Reid came home to NYC only to jump right on another tour, this time with Madhattan breakbeat kings Ming & FS. They did 28 dates in 30 days across America in an RV, like an indie band. Warming the crowd up for an average of 3 hours a night, Reid developed and fine tuned her now signature genre-blending style. Then in the summer of 2003, Reid also recieved a call from a TV show looking for a special DJ to provide on-air flavor to the show. After competing against hundreds of male scratch/hip hop DJs, Reid was personally chosen by Jamie Kennedy to spin her own blend of drum & bass on his show, the Jamie Kennedy Experiment (WB). She went on to also appear as the DJ in an episode of Spike TV's MDN.<br> 2005 saw Reid chosen to judge BPM Magazine & Rockstar Energy drink's "Beauty & the Beats" contest with Dj Rap and Colette. She and Colette then toured with the winner and appeared in more full page ads as well as on an episode of Bravo's "Blowout". Reid is also fully immersed in original production. Her and Queensyze's nu-skool breaks tearout track "Danger" was picked up by Phonomental, her Beep! project with Dj Origin is set for a release on Re:Connect, Reid & Sense's "Bring It Up" was licensed for use on the Pumawomen.com and also appeared on the Baby Anne cd, "Baby Anne Rocks". She also produced several tracks for DMC champ DJ Swamp's upcoming album. Her mixes and original tracks are consistently featured on Power 106's "Power Tools" show, Groove Radio, ibreaks.co.uk, planetdnb.com, and she has recieved almost 200,000 plays on Myspace! On top of that, Reid is the official DJ of Matix clothing, and has an exclusive endorsement with Shure needles. Stay tuned, keep it locked, for the best sounds are yet to come from the little beauty with the big beats! house area 1 Hipp-E 12 Jeremy vs. Snack[GruvGlu, Milk | Raleigh] 3 Danny Lapointe vs. Pepe[Real, NCLounge | Chapel Hill] 2 Fadj vs. Bobby C[GruvSociety, IAG | Vegas, Raleigh] 11 Nick Nasty vs. DainBramage[Pressurebox, Unity djs, DI | Greensboro, DC] 10 Anthony Paul[Va.
