I think people usually find it weird that my favorite genres of music (even though I love every genre) is electronic music and classical. I don't argue about it, since it is an odd combination. I've played violin for most of my life, so I actually have liked classical music longer than any other kind of music. Then, at some point in high school, I got into electronica, and then in the past couple years, have gotten really into it. And honestly, my favorite electronic music artist is Hybrid, and most of that is due to the fact that he incorporates classical instruments extremely well into his breaks. And one of my favorite albums of all time is Venetian Snares - Rossz Callig (can't remember the rest), for much of the same reason.
Anyway, am I alone in this? Or are there some of you that also have love for classical on any level? |

i'm more into the more contemporary orchestral music like shostakovich, steve reich, aaron copland, tchaikofsky, stravinsky, john cage, harry partch, etc but i still go crazy for bach's luite suites, mozart, beethoven, et all.

Oh I mostly agree. My absolute favorite composers are all Russian contemporaries (with the exception of Tchaikowsky, who sounds like an over-dramatic French film). The majority of the super contemporary works on the other hand... like Philip Glass, John Cage, David Diamond... scare me more than intrigue me.
I will say though, aside from late Bach, I have a strong detest for baroque music. Anyway, I'm glad to hear that at least one other person in this kind of scene enjoys (and appears to be knowledgeable about) orchestral works. |

i dont think im into classical quite as much as you but i do like it, i dont listen to it a hole lot but i sure due appreciate the talent and disapline that goes into it. I think thats y i like edm so much, and i dont think that classical and edm is such an odd combo of music genre. when you think about it edm is mostly "composed" rather then playin the instruements and it also follows many classical forms of music.

I have been playing the cello for almost ten years of my life now, and I do enjoy classical at a deeper level than any other genre of music. Though, like any 'classical' geek, I will say calling all music created by a traditional western-style orchestra "classic" is as heinous of a crime as calling all electronic dance music "techno"
![]() Anyways, my favorite genres are romantic, neo-romantic and modernist. Debussy, Chopin, Shostakovich, Holst, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Mahler, and of course, Beethoven, just to name some. As for the all-time favorite...TCHAIKOVSKY!! If you've listened to his 4th symphony...mmmm. I have played it in an ensemble and it's changed my life. I believe my affinity for classical music has greatly influenced my tastes in other music, and definitely 'techno'. Trance naturally became my favorite...I found some familiarity and harmony in its symphonic structuring. As for tiesto's adagio for strings...I'm sorry, it does not hold a candle to samuel barber's originial nbc orchestra recording. |
