As for trance events (ugh, lol) there's tons. You should most def check out Apex (Aug 4th) and Summer Break (Aug 18th). I'll be in Cali near the end of June and will be packing along a bunch of SB flyers to hand out at EDC.
If anybody wants to know more about events in Vancouver or on Vancouver Island your best bets are fnk.ca and ravevictoria.com. I find ClubZone to be geared way more towards hoochies and the likes, but that's just my opinion.

if you wanna find raves... look for festivals in the area and look at the lineups. pick some artists and browse their myspace pages. most of them post their schedules regularly. the schedules show where there playing at. give them a pm to find out where the underground locations are at.

Some of the best parties are in the summer.. but there's always something going on around Vancouver (however, you may have to do some looking around before you find something).

I just moved here from Norway a couple of weeks ago, and during the christmas holiday my girl is comming here as well. Considering she's from Brazil, and we spent the spring there (the rave scene just started there a couple fo years ago and is HUGE!) we were hoping for something great happening around newyears?

any true raving vancouverite can tell you Solid Entertainment throws the biggest and best raves in the lower mainland. there are a couple smaller companies that throw respectable ones themselves, but THE events to go to are definitely IMF, Dooms (Halloween), NYE, and Fusion Dreams. APEX is quite big too, but from what I've heard that one's not always in Vancouver and it's not annual so it may be tougher to get a grip on.
the thing is, there may not be raves going on every week of every month, but when does come around (and there's usually at least one solidly good one every month or two) they are absolutely amazing. every show just never disappoints. if you're looking for more underground stuff though, I can't really help you out there, you'd have to dig a bit deeper.
Anyway, if you're looking to start raving in vancouver with a bang, you should hit one of those up. they won't disappoint. you should check out the club life too, trance music is big in the city and a lot of clubs throw special events with guests DJs from around the world. places like caprice and republic and all that would be a good place to start. hope that helped. good luck!
