For some, it’s already a logical deduction. For those who haven’t heard of him this might be the opportunity to catch up on your DJ literature about the future of Trance. These days successful new DJs have to be a master of many more disciplines than just mixing music. As owner of Intuition Recordings, devoted producer, globetrotting DJ, worldwide broadcasted radio show host and event promoter, Menno has shown that being a workaholic pays off in the dance music scene.

Whilst Intuition Recordings has grown to be one of the top Trance labels, Menno’s tracks have found their way into the playlists of nearly every mainroom, bedroom and underground Trance DJ. In the meantime his Intuition Radio Show gains territory consistently and reaches tens of thousands of listeners weekly. In the end the real action takes place behind the decks though: With a non-stop smile, energetic dancing and continuous contact with the audience he shares his passion for magic melodies and dance floor rocking beats.

Only 23 years young yet Menno’s list of international gigs is bigger than anyone else’s at that age. He has played in more than 20 countries, for clubs and events such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance Energy, Sensation White, Mysteryland, Amnesia Ibiza, Tomorrowland in Belgium, the Love Parade in Berlin, Gaudi Arena in Moscow, Winter Music Conference in Miami, ESP in Johannesburg and many more, alongside some of the top names in the scene such as Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, The Prodigy, Paul van Dyk, Marco V, and Markus Schulz.

His top notch DJ’ing is complemented by some of the finest Trance productions recently released. With tracks such as Tundra, Guanxi, Majestic, and Second Thoughts and remixes for Mark Otten, The Thrillseekers, Karen Overton, and many more, he has developed into one of the top producers in the scene. His recent project ‘Spirit’ with Re:Locate and ‘Magma’ and ‘Momentum’ with Leon Bolier have even charted on national radio stations as well as the official Dutch single charts.

Menno’s years of hard work have resulted in a DJ Mag Top 100 debut at number 72, and subsequently jumping 10 places to number 62. With a number 10 notation in the world’s biggest Trance site, Trance Addict, to top it off, Menno continues to be one of the ambassadors of the underground Trance scene. If that isn’t proof enough of Menno’s reputation, when Twisted asked Armin Van Buuren who his top pick was for 2008 he was quick to exclaim, “Menno, you’d better watch out for him!”

Andy Whitby is not just a hard house DJ, he is an experience. He is a state of mind. He is the transporter of minds and souls to an amazing frantic paradise that, while leaving you knackered, strangely also leaves you feeling re-invigorated.

At 6ft tall and broad-shouldered, with his trademark shaved head, a chunky ostentatious chain around his neck, and immaculate dress sense, he makes an imposing figure who commands respect. His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good mixing desk.

To watch Andy DJ is part of the Whitby experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant, Whitby is in control of the minds and bodies of his audience. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he acts out each track. His precision mixing at incalculable speeds is part of the show; as each track mixes in you can positively feel the dance-floor going up a notch to keep up with the frantic and energetic DJ that has them all by the balls. Andy’s blend of vocal uplifting bouncy house is like him: deliciously hard yet very accessible and for the time he is performing, the space right in front of the DJ decks is hotly contested floor space.

Andy Whitby is the standard that so many more strive for. There are a plethora of CD compilations that he has mixed but listening to one of these is like trying to view a fine piece of art in a darkened room. You need to see him live to really appreciate the full and overwhelming experience that is The Saviour of Hard-Dance.

You can generally tell if an event is going to be credible and worth the money if you see Andy Whitby’s name heading the DJ line-up.
