Three years ago, Nocturnal Commissions first came together to create an event combining a unique theme, a carefully chosen and hardcore-heavy lineup, and a focus on creating a powerful, energetic, and - most importantly - happy vibe. We set ourselves this task because we are, first and foremost, happy hardcore ravers, plain and simple. Also, we were drunk. Over the intervening time, we've learned a lot about making these events happen. We've struggled hundreds of miles through the snow to draw on people's shirts; we've found, lost, found, lost, and with hours to spare found venues; we've created the world's only truly interactive rave experience; we've been really, really drunk really, really often, in really, really silly places; but through it all we've also had the privelege of working for - and with - the most amazing group of people anyone could ever ask to know. After three years, we're ready to take it to the next level. We've started putting our heads together to raise the bar on raving in Toronto. We're putting our creativity into full gear to design the next generation of full scale rave events for Toronto. And in order to facilitate this - in order to do it properly - we're going to be taking some time off from throwing solo events. Because of the increased scale of the events we're looking to achieve, we don't want to be rushed into throwing an event. On the other hand, because it just wouldn't be fair to take sabbatical without a proper send off and copious amounts of jager, we figure, well, heck, one more before the break couldn't hurt! And so, on January 25th, 2008, we are pleased to be saying goodbye to an old era and hello to a new one the same way the Hawaiins say hello and goodbye (which for the record is so much more convenient than having two different words)... ALOHA! As the name implies, and because global warming is so totally awesome, this event is HAWAIIN themed! Grass skirts, Hawaiin shirts, Bermuda shorts, coconuts and pineapples, Jagermeister (it's green, just like Hawaii!), all are encouraged! (Please note that global warming is not only not ACTUALLY awesome, but also not going to keep you warm if you wear a grass skirt while standing in line, so please bundle up appropriately while outdoors - you can coatcheck your gear upon arrival). As we've done in the past, we will be releasing our performer lineup gradually over the next few weeks so that we can give each performer a proper write up. Pay close attention to our website - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - to keep up to date on the latest lineup announcements! Room 1: George (Who Spins Records) - HHC/DnB - Nocturnal Commissions, Orange, Just 4 You One of the original founders of Nocturnal Commissions, George combines his true love of all things hardcore and boundless energy with a vivacious sense of fun. Over the last three years he's grown tremendously as a peformer and he put together some of 2007's most memorable sets, even when he didn't specifically remember them himself. Anyone who has heard George spin lately (and if you haven't, you can go to the following site: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and download his demo) knows that his set is going to be one of the highlights of a truly memorable night of raving! Room 2: Unabomber - Whatever?! - Terror Inc / White Rabbit / Purple Heaven / Blaknightclub.com / Destiny One of Toronto's local legends, Unabomber has been involved with practically every aspect of the rave community over the course of his raving career. That experience is melded with a passion for music that energizes his sets and his dancefloors like none other. We're not even going to bother setting up any chairs - there's no way anyone is going to stop dancing with this man behind the decks! As always, this event will feature our traditional Kandie Kontest (with a tropical twist!); concessions, giveaways, and newbie kits from Team Awesome; Hawaiin decor from the Dream Builders; fresh fruit and candy to help you keep your energy up throughout the night; and most importantly, that unique, intense, truly happy vibe that YOU bring to every one of our events! This event will be held at BLAK Nightclub, located at 178 Bathurst (corner of Bathurst and Queen). Admission is 20$ at the door. PLUR, ROAR, and HOTDAMNWELOOKGOODINCOCONUTS in full effect! One last thing... we believe that this community of ravers is on the verge of a true renaissance. The coming years are going to be some of the most important and most formative that electronic music and the community that loves it will ever see, and we are going to be ready to ensure that you are all able to share in it. We will be back. Fall 2008. Be ready. |

EnD b2b Saiyan - Goodfellaz, Pitched Up / CHC, Sunrize Sound We're always looking for the kind of set that will take the energy up another notch and REALLY kick the party into overdrive. You know, something REALLY intense... something absolutely ridiculous, where when it's over you look at your friends and go "I can't believe that just happened!" Well... we've found it! Room 2: Awesome By Association - Nocturnal Commissions, Embedded Entertainment At last! When Mr. Slippery, one half of ABA, retired last year, we thought we'd never see the return of this high-powered dance duo. But Opel is a persuasive fellow, and he managed to convince Mr. Slippery to come out one more time for an Awesome By Association reunion which is not to be missed! With internationally acclaimed record releases, a tremendous reputation for sweeping the dance floor, and more jager than you can shake a stick at, this is one set is going to be impossible to match! Main Room: Dynamic [USA] b2b Xphox - Nocturnal Commissions, Double Drop Records Two of the Toronto Happy Hardcore community's most well known performers, each has been spreading an infectious optimism and incredible energy for his individual sets, but it's been years since they've paired up. Now, at long last, these two crowd favourites face off for a set that promises to be one of the highlights of the night! But you don't have to take our word for it - you know what to expect! Main Room: DJ Joe Rowe - Deep Frequency/ZTP/djjoerowe.com - Ottawa, Canada Two time DJ comp winner and part of the driving force behind Deep Frequency, Ottawa's most successful Hard Dance club night. Joe has been showcased at countless shows all over central and eastern Canada. Known for his infectious stage presence, energy, and love of music, this is one act you don't want to miss!! Room 1: Restricted Viewing - Brain Cell What kind of trance would fit into a happy hardcore event? It would have to be bangin'... it would have to be uplifting... it would have to have a lot of energy... well lucky for us, the boys behind Brain Cell productions have just the thing! Restricted Viewing has been bringing their unique style of high energy uplifting trance to dance floors all over the city, and we're proud to have them on board for this send-off event! Room 2: Marty McFly - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], Chills One of Toronto's favourite performers (and likewise one of our own favourites), Marty is adored by thousands for his top notch mixing, outstanding track selection, and most importantly for the sheer energy and optimism that he brings to the decks! As one of the happiest people in the rave community, we knew Marty would be a perfect fit for the NC stage, and we can't wait to see what he has in store for us tonight! |

Today's Lineupdate - The DNB Edition! Jeph b2b Scartat w/ MC Locked - Art of Noize, General Misconduct, VIP Dubz, Double Drop Records What do you get when you cross a Ford Taurus with a turkey made entirely of Tofu? Who cares - everyone will be too busy watching these guys spin to notice! Jeph and Locked have been at the forefront of Toronto's DnB scene on the production end, driving the vanguard with some of the tightest tunes to hit the decks in recent years; Scartat has literally founded a movement with his fusion of metal, jungle, and everything in between; together, there's no stopping these rising (dare we say shooting?) stars of Toronto's Drum and Bass! Mizz Lee b2b Lucy Ford - Orange, Nocturnal Commissions, Embedded Entertainment Back in the States, people are making a big deal out of the possibility of having a woman leader for the first time. Up here in Canada, though, we've had women in charge for years - and there's no better example of that than these two! Lucy Ford and Mizz Lee have formed the backbone of Nocturnal Commissions' DnB, and for good reason - amazing people beside the decks, and incredible DJs behind them, their set is sure to put a smile on your face, a bounce in your step, and a bangin, bad-ass bassline in your ears! LeFreak - Affiliations Suck, Brain Cell One thing that's been missing from most events in recent years has been awesome, euphoric morning trance to really wind up a night properly and end on good note. Part of the reason is that it takes a very skilled DJ to maintain the smooth mixing and uplifting energy that morning trance requires. Lucky for Toronto, we've got just such a DJ in LeFreak, one of our own favourites and a true hardcore raver - even when she's not playing hardcore! Last edited by DynamicUno; 23.1.2008 at 4:58 am. AWOL b2b SpEdfrEk - SCUM DJs / Hitman, Blak Party machines! We've hung out with SpEdfrEk for some pretty epic afterparties, preparties, during-parties, and where-the-hell-are-we parties, and although we can't remember much, what stands out is that it was a kick ass time with some kick ass music every time! So how do you kick that level of partying up a notch? You draft reinforcements! So naturally we elected to bring AWOL, London's own hard sound champion, out to show us how L-Town breaks it down! Expect these two to push each other to new heights of awesometastic! Kyle Constable - The Herd Imagine this: you're at an immense outdoor art exhibit that's gone all night long. The sun is just beginning to rise. There are dozens of people milling about Trinity Bellwood Park who have never heard rave music before. Who is there, poised to open their eyes to a whole new world? Kyle Constable, that's who. We've witnessed few scenes more moving than when he brought his soulful, expressive music out to Nuit Blanche, serenading the sunrise with haunting but powerful melodies and intense breakbeats, and we're excited to be able to share this fast rising up and comer with you tonight! Supernova - The Herd At Nocturnal Commissions, we've worked hard to ensure that newcomers get a chance to make themselves heard and prove their worth, for without fresh faces the community would quickly stagnate. As part of that initiative, we're proud to introduce Supernova for his rave debut - he's proved himself a capable, competent and innovative DJ in terms of mixing, and he's got a unique track selection that will bring new tunes to the table of Toronto's hardcore community! Timeslots will be posted when I wake up! I'm also given to understand that there will be Hawai'in Punch based drinks available (alcoholic for those over 19 who wish to consume, non-alcoholic for everyone else) to help get us in the right frame of mind. Remember, with global warming just around the corner, we're going to have to get used to thinking of January as luau time, so think of this as practice for the not-so-distant future! See everyone tomorrow night - remember, dress HAWAI'IN!!! |
