how do you dance to breakbeats? not wanting to start any drama and shit, juss wanna discuss. Do you participate or spectate when you hear breaks, and what is it that you do, pop and/or lock, or straight up twirls & breakdancing stuff? Ive noticed a few B-Boys (and B-girlz) stand out a lot and show some ill skillz when they notice the beat. Just wanted to know who else is into this, who else reprezents

There is no form to it. Techno, Breaks, House...........you could say you are in a box-alll of these have 4/4 elements, but breaks have more ideas flowin threw them. I dance like a liquid puppet hanging from the sky------no joints, no tension, no shit. If you wanna know how Idance, listen to"GET YOUR DAMCE ON" & "THE HUMPTY HUMP". Both are all breaks, one funky, one electrik nuschool, both intense. I have 13 mixes up, many from this month so check it........

haha djSprocket, funny shit!!! I want to see you dance!!
I don't do the popping breakdancing stuff... i actually started off liking all kinds of rave music, but sooner developed to jungle, dnb and mostly Breakbeats. I think cause of the beat, it's more of a skippy kind of dancing. (I'm a girl, bear in mind). I love dancing to it sober, but pop a candy at a rave with good music and I can dance for hours!! I think it just has a really good raw beat to it, added in with a bit of a funky tune, or ragga, and you're set. |

yeah, there's no "way" or "style" that defines the breakbeat dance that i've heard of. breaks are so unique because it's a mix of all other sounds (with the addition of a wicked beat) so sometimes you can dance really chill and mellow when listening to a nice bossanova breaks mix or you can throw your fist in the air like a rockstar when you hear some of adam freeland or rogue element's rock cuts or groove some funk and house style with manuel neztic's sets.
i add everything from the uprocking and footwork of new school and old school breakdancing to samba to tribal to popping to capoeira to house to trance and rocker style and everything in between. sometimes i'll just dance really mellow and sometimes i'll dance like i'm possessed. it depends on how the sound compels me to move. the breakbeat style is a mix of every beat, physical movement and dance style you know or don't know. heck, you can do jumping jacks (and i've seen this) if you like. it's unique to you. however, i do suggest one thing. when you hear that wicked beat that just floors you, throw down like you OWN that dance floor. ![]() |

"when you hear that wicked beat that just floors you, throw down like you OWN that dance floor"... AMEN to that!!
kimojg - what's your favourite tune? I am totally interested. I also did some research on breakbeats a while ago and found out it had it's roots in Reggae... my only other favourite style of music to listen to!! There's not enough proper breakbeat parties out here where I live for me to dance like a madwoman!! Although one time I saw Phil K (this aussie breakbeats DJ) spin, and he was actually really awesome and I did dance like I was possessed but I had a helluva time!!! |

![]() i don't really have a favorite at the moment but there's a lot of different styles and djs that i enjoy listening to from time to time. i've been seeking and listening to a variety of stuff lately but some notable styles are: bossanova breaks, ragga/reggae breaks, electro house breaks, psy breaks and, of course, rock-edged breaks. i grew up with all kinds of rock so i'm ecstatic when i hear a cool rock tune that's been mixed well with breaks. i've heard phil k's stuff and he's good. trendroid from australia is also good, although they're not breakbeats. a breaks producer/dj who is not too well known at the moment who i highly recommend is stone lions (damian taylor). damian has fantastic taste in music and he's on adam freeland's marine parade label, along with evil nine and bassbin twins, and is inspiration for all of them. download both his mixes (downtempo and thump rock) at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. imho, he's one of the best out there. whereabouts in the world are you that break gigs are hard to come by? i just recently moved out of los angeles and now i'm planning a move to toronto, which is supposed to have a pretty sick scene there as well. “You are the music while the music lasts.” ~T.S. Eliot |

I'm from Hong Kong and I live here... I went to uni in England so I did get into the DnB scene in Bristol which was pretty awesome. We get some big DJ's from time to time but they always play generic trance stuff which I'm beginning to dislike cause I can't dance to that stuff anymore. It's hard to get a venue here to host rave gigs cause HK isn't exactly big. Phil K actually spun in a bar/club and I had never heard of him until then, but I had the sickest time! I danced for like 6 hours straight... everyone was sitting down cause they don't like breaks. I find you need heaps of energy to dance to breaks because it's just so energetic. I just can't seem to get enough of it these days.
People here are into trance and hardhouse more... in fact a lot of my raving friends can't stand breaks!!! I recently bought a bossa nova/ marley disc that's pretty funked up and I'm liking bossa nova so will have a poke about that stuff. But breaks, and reggae will always top my list.
