I totally agree... I think when most people start out they get into the commercialized stuff, just cause that's how you get into the whole rave scene in the first place. Most DJ's start off really good, but then once they get commercialized, their sets start to lack originality and spark (i.e. Paul Oakenfold, PVD). Breakbeats, (and jungle/ Dnb/ 2step) all have a wicked under-beat, this raw rhythm and energy. Tunes come and go in fads, but a wicked beat is still a wicked beat 10 years later. Breakbeats draws people who really appreciate original and good music, it's also slightly underground so you really have to dig around (not buy some Ministry of Sound compilation CD) to find stuff you like. And once you get to that point, you develop your own style, and that's what makes people good dancers. For them, it's all about the music, and good music at that. Breakbeats has a lot of personality, it's not commercialized, overplayed and stuff you get bored of too easily.
Been raving for 9 years... and used to like all sorts of rave music, but now for a really good roll and crazy non-stop dancing, I need to listen to breaks! It's just the best kind of music to dance to. I even listen to it to work out to, and just on the go. It's not until I realized that my favourite style of music was breakbeats that I developed my own style of dancing. |

and i ditto all of dancerootZ's views as well.
"...a wicked beat is still a wicked beat..." to me, breakbeats are an innovative and ever-changing combination of the sickest drum and bass beats mixed with a plethora of different sounds and music styles. i love house, d'n'b, progressive, tribal, goa, electro, etc. and i enjoy dancing differently to each of these genres as well but when i want to throw down (and i mean throw down wicked hard) breakbeats is where i shine. i bring out every type of dance style i have ever known with a sprinkle of martial arts moves along with some spur-of-the-moment creativity and it's just absolute wicked mayhem on the dance floor when i put on my pumas. it's also pure bliss when a breaks dj can bring together your favorite beeps, bops and booms and mix it seamlessly with house, electro, rock, reggae, etc. because it takes you even higher still. house, trance and the other genres have some great dancers but with breakbeats you can really mash every dance style together to orchestrate a mad beat symphony. yeah, breakbeats draws the best dancers and it IS the underground. here's a mix i'm listening to that i'd like to share with my peers and breakbeat newbies alike. download and play it loud. ![]() [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] peace, aloha & beats, kimo |

I like breaks because no matter what your dance style is you can find a way to move to the beat. |

As a "kandy raver" I will admit that breaks definately draw the most skilled dancers.. and I won't deny that I love breaks -- but I still like all my various hardcore genres >=) Epic trance can go to hell though... ughhhhhh. I don't see how people stay awake through fucking trance parties
Well.. come to think of it I only listen to almost decade old or older hardcore =\ ...but yah =P Breaks over jungle any day of the week, imo. |
