It's ok to rave without a name, your friend should just wait until someone comes up with a name that he loves, he'll like it better than something he comes up with himself.

I guess rave names are not the easiest part of the culture to understand. There are two explanations I've thought of, and I think they are probably both true: I guess the superficial one is that it's not exactly smart to go around announcing to everyone who you really are when your on drugs, ect. The second is that rave culture brings out something like an alter-ego in a lot of people. Often times it's a much nicer, more empathetic, uniting in the movement side, hence names like sunshine, bounce, sparkle etc.

I think people the names also serve a lot of other purposes, such as "initiation" into the scene, denoting a part of a personality, denoting a purpose/function in the culture, etc.

pretty much everyone who has a stupid name came up with it when they were high,
or when they did something stupid while they were high

I really don't think it's just a random thing people do on drugs. It's way too widespread to not be serving a purpose in the culture.

1) there are probaby thousands of other "adam"s in the scene, but maybe only 10 Dreamer, Giggles, Chaos, whatever. It's easier to remember.
2) Rave names promote the idea that when you are raving you can be whoever you want to be, not who you were born. It is up to you how you want to present yourself, and if having another name helps you present the real you, then so be it!

I usually introduce myself as both giggles and tessa and tell people they can pick, people usually pick giggles just because it's easier to remember.

I just chose my rave name cuz it sounded kool... TecKNOKali!

Cuz I was talking about a rave to a friend and I said "Well technically raves arent really just for acid..." then I said hmmm "technOcally..."

Then I thought.. omg at raves there is TECHNO... and ahhh I love it TecKNoKali!!" haha!! Just kind of a stumble of words led me to mine.

My friend's rave name is Kandi Kock... He's gay and likes candy haha!! My other friend is Revvy 2.0 Originally Revolution Q because he wants to start a revolution, but decided to shorten it to Revvy... I dunno where the 2.0 came in haha!!!

I've had a few. Ayla (my middle name), pixy stix (because i used to hand out pixy stix all the time before they stopped letting me bring them in) and finally Shortcake which is what I guess I use now (generally I just go with my real name, Julia, as it's not the most common girl's name anymore anyway).

Rave names have always been the thing that showed that at a rave you're no longer bound by the responsibilities that surround you're name and you can be something more lighthearted and innocent -- like a kid =)

When I first got mine I was a little confused by it. A group of girl were dancing with me and later that night they wanted to name me Happy Feet. They said it was because of my penguin bag and the fact that when I danced I shuffled like crazy. So they combined the penguin and my dancing. I've grown to love it now!

My other friend asked me to name her and I suggested "Glitter Bot" "Cupcake" or "Electronica" (dont ask haha)

And she's like "Hmm no..." so I said "...EleKtro...Cake...Bot!!! EleKtroCakeBot!!!" and she said "I love it!!!!"

ive come up with some pretty good raver names so ive never had anyone complain about what i name them.
I named a good friend of my Apollo because he kept looking into the sky.
i named another good friend of mine Minerva because shes beautiful ! haha
I named this huge dude i met in a line Callisto because he was as big as a bear and callisto is the name of the bear constalation.
I named a girl i met at awakening ceruleun because her eyes were really deep blue
and I named another girl Venus because she too was also beautiful... but i wanted to name her something other than Minerva haha

I love when i give people names that they fall in love with. it makes my roll and their roll so much deeper and heart filled. sometimes its better to think more about names than just fire off crap like Mrs. Kitty, and Candy Princess, and Snow White or all that other shit. When you name someone, or you are being named, you should feel that certain satisfaction. that tiny happy cringe u get in the back of ur mind when u get named something just right. that acceptance. thats what a rave name should be based on.

thats what i think the true constitution of a raver name should be.

I was first named SPECTRA by my boyfriend from a piece of kandy he gave me, but then when i went to how sweet it is i was named AQUA because the guy said i looked like a mermaid with my blonde hair, my shell necklace, and the turquoise bikini top that i was wearing.. so now i have two! which one do you like more?

i named myself. I had two names in mind since i was a kid for my rave name.

it was either going to be spooky or special k. but i felt special k was in agreence with my soul so chose that.
