Rave Names

So my impression is that this is how it works:

1.) You get picked to receive a name from someone who is already named.
2.) If the person doesn't already know you and can't think of a name from your appearance, they ask you to tell them something about you to use to come up with a name.
3.) After they name you, the two of you PLUR shake and the namer does a one-way kandi transfer to the nameE.
4.) Once officially named you can't change your name.
5.) You go by your name in the rave scene and only in the rave scene.

Anyone dispute that? Am I being too strict? I ask because my friend just got named by someone at EDC and now he wants to change it. I told him he's not allowed to and he refuses to accept that he has to be named by someone else who is already "in".

dude u can do whatever u want with your ravename, there are no "rules" in the rave scene except for the whole PLUR business and treat others how you would like to be treated. most of the most famous ravers around didnt start off with the names they have now. fuck, i even know some of em chose them themselves, dont make your friend keep their name if they dont like it lol

A rave name is a rave name.... mine has stuck for years (its Meeko) but have many variations of the names. But just like DJs change their names, and others change their nicknames, it is TOTALLY not the end of the world to change a name you don't like to be called.

i have two nicknames. seven and plurfecto, and all of my friends will call me one or the other. my first ravename was bashful when i was 13-14 because i was real shy. i'm 23 now and have had5 names in 10 years of ravin. i never have heard that you can't change rave names

I've yet to be named, but if your friend doesn't like the name, or doesn't think it fits, he doesn't have to take that name. ^^
I have heard you aren't supposed to name yourself, but that's it ^^

if the name doesnt suit me or i dont fancy it, why would i stick with it? haha, when i introduce myself to people with a name i detest then that wouldnt really seem sensible.

I never said he didn't like the first name. The point is that he wants to make it up himself..

The whole rave name thing just has me in stitches. It cracks me up when someone comes up to me at a party, totally serious and goes "hi, my name is Dragonstar, what's yours?" I mean, a cool nickname is one thing, like Chip, or Crash, or Osiris or something like that. Hell, Momo ain't too bad. But seriously what goes through peoples minds when they call themselves rabbitsparkle or some dumb shit like that?

at EDC i introduced myself as "Mr. Merryweather"
i tend to change my name at every party i go to, the more obscure the better.
though i do really like this last one.

i figure if someone recognizes me by looks then that's better anyway.
