Re: How To Make An Orbital
what kind of lights do u have? neway this is how i do it..i use the inova microlights (not the best for orbits compared to like ravn or tricolor or freedom) but they get the job done and done well..neway first zip tie 2 together loosely using 2 of the smallest zip ties if the hole is big enough. this part is kinda hard to describe, but take the other 2 lights and zip tie them together loosely just like the first 2 but before u run the zip ties thru the second light's hole pass it thru the loosely zipped ties on the other pair so the zip ties make like a chain-link look..make sure the "on" buttons all face out too. now u can zip all the ties as tight as u can. now usually the strings r strung thru the holes but there shouldnt be enough room to do that so the best thing i found to do is to take whatever length u like and drape it between the lights over the zip ties and wrap it around once then pull the ends tight so its tight around the middle of the orbit. then, if ur orbit is laying flat on ur desk, pull the strings straight up and tie a knot at the base, closest to the lights as u can. do the same on the other side. the knots r a lil trick i figured out, i dunno if u notice but when ur orbiting the strings wobble a lot once it gets to the part where the string finishes unraveling and starts to rewind it self, the knots suppress that alot so u can orbit faster and longer.. ok..now tie a knot at the very end of the strings to close the loop then put keychain rings at the ends so ur fingers dont get all raw..i found that out from verveunreal on youtube..after u put the rings on the strings tie another knot to trap the ring at the end of the string. this other knot does the same thing as the ones next to the lights and also keeps the rings in check so it doesnt tangle up as much. finally this is prolly the hardest part to describe. if u look at the orbit by now its not a straight orbit..it kind of has 2 "layers" cuz the lights are next to each other instead of all in the same plane..so you need to angle the lights inward..this is where my orbit design falls a lil short. take 2 big zip ties now and put one zip ties end into the other ones recieving end and do that again for the other ends so u have a zip tie loop..to help me descirbe this lets say the orbit is on ur desk again..the lights are pointing straight up and at u and straight left and right. take that loop of big zip tie u just made and have it run over the lights pointing left and right and under the up and down lights..tighten this up slowly because you dont want to overtighten it..it should serpentine around the lights and angle them so all the actually bulbs are in the same line and there you go, thats how my orbit is made haha..long reply i know..
the only problems with this are that the orbit flexes sometimes when its angled so it might slow down the spin but it looks cool from the sides..also i use nylon string like for kites so this thing spins suuuper fast and sometimes its too much for the lights and they fly off shattering on my wall or like smashing into my chin..but yeah, hope this helps somehow haha
