So... reading a thread on another message board had me think a lot about prostitution and the scary attitudes prostitutes/escorts have about their "job." As harsh as some of my views may be, I wanted to see where others thought, as the thread didn't really allow for your own views if they were harsh. I wanted to give a fair reply to the person answering questions that is an escort but I dunno... some things really pissed me off.
So here we go... a discussion of escorting! So this thread was basically this girl/escort answering peoples questions about her experiences and views in her career. Naturally, there are many opposing views. My problem lies with the topic of STD's. To sum it up, basically she doesn't feel the need to be tested often, and she doesn't always use protection. She has the attitude that she doesn't really want to know if she catches anything, kind of an ignorance is bliss deal. But she specifically said that even if she caught something, she would still escort because she has to make money, it's good money, and she can't get the things she wants in life without the money shes making. So even if she catches something, she can potentially pass it on to others. She doesn't get tested often, so if you don't know you have something then you really can't think about what you might be passing on. However, I had a problem with her basically saying that she would keep working even if she did have something. She said that HIV drugs help prolong life and it's really not the end of the world if one did catch it. I think it's morally wrong to pass something on that may be passed onto someone that is innocent in the situation, such as a husband cheating on the wife, catches an std from an escort, brings it home to innocent wife. Innocent wife can get stds, and I don't think the whole responsibility lies on the husband, it also lies on the escort as well. She talked about how many STDs can be cured too, and im all who cares? Someone should have more respect for themselves then think "Oh well if I catch this std it can be cured. Give me the meds and bring on the next customer." In the meantime, she could of infected god knows how many people. And then HPV... that shit is extremely rampant and due to her nonchalant attitude, she basically is not caring that she can be causing other girls to potentially get cancer. It's just......... not sitting right with me. I dont see prostitution as a job at all, and am horrified at her being so nonchalant about her health. Blah! |

I dont know what to tell ya, these women choose there lifestyle Im not for it or against it im neutral, but as far as STD most can be cured except aids, and these women do make alot of money sometimes as much as a grand a day tax free, this has been around since the beginning of time I dont know if it will ever end, I mean there are girls in massage parlors, internet sites, escorts. I would think alot of these girls do have diseases. its actually quite sad. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |

Brothels are legal in reno, nv. I saw on t.v. that the girls live in the house. The guys that come in get a quick physical and go to the room with the girl. They use clean sheets with each person and they also put on gloves when they put the condom on the guy. They also get checked like every month. They take a lot of precautions.

Yeah some do get checked often which makes it better.... I guess. But for those that dont get checked and just dont care... I have issues with that.

It's funny to see this thread because I just checked out a documentary from the library called Born into Brothels. It's about child prostitution in Calcutta. (Odd viewing tastes, I know!)
There's also this really good Diane Sawyer special called Prostitution in America: Working Girls Speak. It explores lots of aspects of the trade including what some women who do it feel about it. It covers everything from the legal "bunny ranches" in Nevada to streetwalkers. Seeing the 20/20 special gave me new perspectives on prostitution, but I am still ambivalent about it. Seems like the kind of thing that some people will always engage in in one form or another. Should we ignore it? Ehhhh. Should we crack down? Blahhhh. Should we legalize it to try to make it safer for the workers & patrons. Blarghhh...... |
