you havent been around long enough then. shit does go down occasionally.

there's a lot of hypocrisy in rave plur and all that, too. people do fucked up things in all networks. the rave scene is definitely not exempt. if you think otherwise, youre going to hit a rude adjustment period at some point.

i thought this site could get a LITTLE bitchy sometimes, but then i found bayraves. i don't even post there because people are so mean. granted some of it is sarcasm and you kind of need to know the person to get it, but there really are a lot of cruel comments going around there. let's be the nice guys =)

Right, because where ever people are involved there is this potential and likelyhood for negativity. I don't believe that people are inherantly good. I also don't believe that simply developing the ability to recognize our negative or lower natures frees us from their influence. I think that people are survivors, and survival is rarely a pretty thing. But in our current evolutionary phase, all of those survival instincts have become hyper focused on more societal aspects (as opposed to "watch out for that lion!!") and hence, we act fucked up from time to time without really being able to control it. Some sort of alpha-human bull shit to protect our precious egos I suppose.

Anyway, look up the definition of Utopia (which is what i think rave culture attempts to attain)....

American Heritage Dictionary says-
u·to·pi·a
n.
1. An ideally perfect place, especially in its social, political, and moral aspects.
2. A work of fiction describing a utopia.
3. An impractical, idealistic scheme for social and political reform.

I think that #3 best describes the rave scene. Everyone wants to have Utopia but most are not willing to do the work when it comes to the hard stuff. Everyone wants the part that acknowledges them and their beliefs and positions, but most seem unable or unwilling to allow the same of others in reality.

A perfect example of this is the "rave act"...Well? Are you not citizens? Vote! Try to get busted for throwing a party and challenge the rave act as unconstitutional in court (right to peaceful assembly). That's the work...that's the hard part. ..that's how we get to utopia...and yet...

It's easy to ignore the negative but much harder to actually listen to what it is saying, to hear the true message that it contains. The simple fact is that life is a series of contrasting events, positive and negative, and those are how we ultimately define what it is that we are after. But getting there is more than just questioning what's up.

That's the problem with the rave scene...no one seems to ever get past asking why and to the part where we do something.

Well im a lot older than you obviosly think. Ive been going to raves for about ten years now. I recently stoped for a couple years but things haven't changed that much. Obviously things will happen everywhere no shit! thats a given but raves generally have fewer problems than other places people party. Im very different, ive been to a lot of different party scenes with all different types of people and music. When i'm at a rave things are way more mellow. A little argument here and there is nothing compared to some of the things i've seen. I didnt grow up in pleasantville.

Im not stating facts, just sharing my personal experince and opinion. Quite frankly i dont give shit what you think. Im just 1 voice among many!!
Im done with this subject now! Chat with you all soon!!

Take care! Be safe!!!

Really, if you know how to handle your shit, you won't have any issues with them. I have even spent part of a rave chatting with an undercover; talking music & hobbies & stuff. Totally cool dude, and I know how to handle that situation. I have yet to have problems with undercovers, but I'm also there for the music, not to get completely stupid.
nah, narcs are there to bust you. keep you safe from what?!??!

sorry burst ur bubble. I keep my cool never have had one on my case but I just dont like rats. I hope they burn to death

I'll make one more observation. How is it that we, as ravers, bitch about narcs, bad vibes, icky people and such topics, and ignore the trashing of venues that occurs at every party? Not breaking stuff or graffiti, but all the garbage/water bottles laying around at the rave. How come nobody bitches about that? Because it doesn't directly influence your night! That should be as big of an issue, if not more so, than Joe Narc or Random Raver "trying" to ruin your night. I usually spend part of my time at the rave or club picking up bottles. It makes me feel a little better.

Utopia (perfect term!) cannot be achieved, but a friendly, inviting, fun, responsible environment can; we simply have to work for it. Don't just shout "PLUR!", but actually do something. I have seen some beautiful responses to my post; things that really need saying. Even those who differ in their opinions have valid points. Diversity is as key to our scene as the principles of PLUR, but it is always up to YOU how your night goes.
