Been doing it for years and pretty much been in every aspect in ever genre and did just about every job (cept for slinging) in the rave scene. its really so wide and diverse in so many different ways but i still can grasp it completely as a whole. I will try to share with everyone how i feel what the rave scene really is and you guys can try to understand where i'm coming from.
This scene is made up by alot of different people but just about all of them have one of three things in common: 1. MUSIC 2. LONELINESS 3. MONEY for alot of ravers its Music... i wish i could say all of them but in honesty its really not. Alot of your dj's Love the music but some of them love the fame and money alot more. and guess what alof of promoters do it for? your wrong, cause actually i really dont know alot of promoters who make any money at all in this scene. i actually know alot of them who've lost thousands of dollars. but they still keep on doing it, because they love the scene and the music. its hard to throw parties... it might be worth it but they take alot of time and money and stress from you. not everyone can do it, even though they say they can.. i doubt they can in reality when i first started going to ravers, it was some huge fad. everyone was doing it and everyone was into pills. those who stopped going were because they burned themselves out and really just had to move on with their lives. for some of them it didnt change their lives for the better. actually it was alot better back then because there were teachers to teach us how to rave, how to be safe, how to take care of one another. they were there to mentor all the newbies in so they can have a safe time in our scene. they even taught us how to find your supply while going to a party without getting busted by an undercover. (** i'll talk more about them in a sec**) the scene has changed, couldnt say for the worse though, but its deffinetely changed. if you look around you would probably see that most of the people in the scene though all are lonely and are looking for something that the world couldn't give to them. they probably were picked at in school or had a fucked up family. they probably didn't have any friends at all. it doesnt mean every was like this but alot of you kids i'm sure did feel like that when you first came into our scene. thats why its such a big part of your lifes. who wouldn't feel this way about the scene if everyone you met at your first party was you new best friend and doing pills made you feel like a kid again experiencing life all over in a new fashion. expression to do anything you want and no one would judge you. Peace Love Unity Respect. but it isnt that way after all, is it? People judge people here all the time. at the raves, in the boards, everywhere... its really not your fault, thats just society right? i mean you all live in the bay area, where theres alot of diversity and expression and tolerance... so why do some of you think your better and anyone else in any part of your life? I feel alot of people have no respect for anything, not even for families and thats the most important thing in life. but this is what you are, you are all searching for a new family but some still squabble over some stupid crap thats triffle. this message board is starting out to become just like Bayraves with alot of shit talking. this is because certain people feel the right to express themselves but you fail to realize that you've just expressed your feelings harshly in a rude manor. so who wouldn't want to snap back at you? think about what you are going to say before you post it on the boards. try to PM someone if you were crossed. and most importantly, NEVER POST WHEN YOUR PISSED OFF!!! please read everything before you misunderstand something someone said. i don't consider myself a teacher, i just want to bring out some points to you kids so you can better yourselves. this is all just as much as my scene as it is yours so i want you all to take care of it, please. i try to do my part in my own way as much as i can give to you all. i wish i could give more sometimes. if you guys would all look out for one another, that would mean the world to me. -give compliments, not remarks -take care of yourselves, one another, strangers -respect everyone, everything, respect the promoters... their doing this all for you -respect the god damn venue - we dont have many of them and we're loosing them because of stupid shit like someone thought it would be funny to tag the walls. you really like staying at home don't you because thats whats going to happen soon if you dont knock it off asshole. if you see someone tagging the walls, TELL SOMEONE DAMN IT!!! -please encourge people to excel, dont put them down, i'm sure you wouldn't like it yourself it someone did that to you -take care of the girls in the scene, their delicate and most of your predators are looking to take advantage of them -i said this before, but i'll say it again... please throw away your trash in the proper places -Do the right thing if anyone you guys started doing any of these things, you would realize that your making our scene better and i'm sure it'll show. we would all notice it. if you want to change something, do your part. we all have to try atleast cause you can only blame yourself if you didn't. I try to check this board ever so once in a while but every time i come here theres always shittalking and it breaks my heart. i'ld rather not hear your drama. thats the only way i've been able to still have faith in this scene. **Thats another thing i hate in our scene... those fucking pill pushing muther fuckers who are always at every show with their god damn baseball caps going up to every kid and gettin in there face about pills. HONESTLY, could you make it more obvious to the cops whats going on. I wish everyone would just get their stuff before hand in advance because if their not selling anything in the parties then hopefully they would chill out. its getting out of hand again. DO US ALL A FAVOR AND DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM!!!!! |

I hella agree with you on all this....Most of my close friends I first started raving with just did it for the drugs, went to raves every single weekend, and within a year ended up just getting burned out and sick of going. Some of them just did it for an "image" to get attention in highschool, walking into class with 20 bead bracelts up their forearms, yet when asked what their favorite songs are they just say "Dj Sandstorm and that listen to your heart one. But I like DnB now because you get made fun of if you listen to trance." The reasons I stayed? My love for the music only grew more, and I even though I lost my friends that burned out, I made new friends that were much more passionate about what the entire point of going to a rave truly means and stands for. It wasnt just about going to a rave, listening to some music, and dancing around.......It was about making new best friends in a single night and basically just unforgetable 'epic' moments. Whenever I hear a song on my computer, I'm reminded of the times I heard it played at a party and all the memories just come back and make me smile. I know I say this WAYYY too many times, but I feel I gotta say it again: "How complicated is Enjoying Music and having an amazing time with some friends supposed to be?" |

Wow vito.. Way to go.. You gonna shield the world from every raver in the bay area?
Good luck. Personally. I welcome the bay ravers.. Cause before there seemed to be no discussion at all on these boards except for the weekly topic: " , I LOVE KANDI!""PARTY TONIGHT" "PLUR!!" I admit for taking part in and creating quite a few of those kind of threads. I've changed now. The reason we sound harsh is because we are not afraid to express ourselves. These topics can really make you think! To those that are to dense to realize this than seriously. Lay off the e-pills and read a book. Expand your mind in the natural way. The beautiful thing about America is that we can say whatever the fuck we want to! So what your telling me tenchi is that you want us to silence ourselves because alot of people dissagree with us? Seriously man.. Get real. Heres two things to consider: 1) It is very difficult to notice the tone of a post. 2) People are very different. Especially in the rave scene.. Many different viewpoints. In case you needed to know.. My TONE of this post is not angry. Its more like concern for your thought process. Pwned. |

yeah, well maybe you should be.
There is a serious lack of intelligent conversation on this board. |

The original post has good points, but not everyone follows those rules. Lonliness is a possible attribute of many ravers-- lots of people come alone. But this is because you couldn't really do that at a club: you'd get stared down or harrassed. Raves are more likely to uphold a friendlier atmosphere. In general, rave music is LESS racialized than say, fucking emo and scene music (which is REALLY white suburban) although its primarily European. It certainly brings to mind a more alternative group of people, than say, Bay Rap does. In being an alternative space, it welcomes those who didn't "fit in" with various categories of suburban trash or preppy snobs of high school (depending on your community). Yes its mostly white and asian kids, but still. Electronic music is a new brand, and hasn't been dominated in full by any one particular group of people.
It sucks that raves cost money, but my first few raves were really cheap and really good, and I loved that you can have fun with what you wear, or wear whatever, instead of feeling that you need to have expensive, designer clothes. Thanks for sharing your experience-- it can be understood as a common rave story that certainly can be true with many ravers. |
