so i'm new to the scene, my first rave was no place like home 2 last fall, and i've heard and read many references to "the collapse of the empire" in 2000. old schoolers: what happened? is it just the norcal scene that "fell"? and has the scene bounced back?

id say more of yr 2002 is when it hit norcal maybe 2003... raving was just dying down, still a drug based scene, but back then there was definitely alot more battling and "raving" going on, tutting, pop n lock, liquid, but like, raving is pretty old, and its still basically the biggest nightscene through out the world, its just norcal has new trends which tend to be more popular such as what we would just call the club..., and it wasnt jus the norcal scene, socal went down also, just not as bad, hmm, those years remind me of cyberfest... lol

i think also that in addition to cultural shifts away from raving, there were some major legal changes that really didn't help the rave scene, in 2003 the RAVE("Reducing Americans Vulnerability to Ecstasy") act passed which can make club/venue owners and promoters responsible for drug related issues that might come up during a rave and less people were willing to take the risk.

yeah, i miss the days where no 1 tripped about pills on u and u were even able to test them at the raves with free testing stalls, but, it is a new era, still nothing to hate about it, everything changes over time

The Rave Act got passed, it's a lot harder to find venues, it's even more hard to throw undergrounds, lots of promoters stopped doing parties, the oldskool ravers grew up and stopped raving.. there's a lot of reasons combined.

It basically was the Rave act. The scene here seems to go in waves. I have seen an up swing in terms of parties being thrown, production value stepping up, and new people entering the scene. As the year goes on I really believe that icrews need to step up what they are offering at their shows beyond just Dj's and some lasers in order to have people continue attending events and bringing new life into our scene. When I started raving in the 90's there was a lot more offered at a show like full decor, and freebies at the door like water or otter pops. As long as people keep offering some thing fresh our scene has huge growth potential.
