1. Education - This is where I call out some of the older, more veteran ravers. Most of the problems you see at parties can be remedied by educating people. Not just preaching PLUR, but correcting people's ways in a positive and encouraging manner. If you see someone freaking out in a corner because they maybe took a bit too much, go over and offer some support to them. We've all been in that spot before. If you see someone doing something that might annoy or irritate others, be nice and advise them that it's cool that they're having fun, but to think of others as well.
Take a newbie raver under your wing. I've taken close to 30 different people to their first party, and every time I do I always try to educate them on everything, from PLUR, to the drugs, to the vibe and culture. The biggest thing I find is for people to know that the culture is about having FUN and being accepting of others. Once people are conscious of this, they tend to mesh in with the scene a lot easier. Alot of this is derived from PLURR, but (and it's unfortunate), just going around and preaching PLURR doesn't go far these days. We need to give people the full story and practice what we preach. Just saying PLURR and then not practicing it yourself is BS. 2. Acceptance - This is sort of tied into the above, but I find the rave scene sort of cliquing off. Everyone hangs out with their little clique, and shuns the presence of others. Must we have to be reminded that the U in PLURR stands for "UNITY". This means being accepting of others, even if they may think or act differently than you. I think a lot of the attitudes that are common in parties nowadays come from ravers already in the scene, NOT newbies. It's inevitable that new people are going to come into the scene. You all did at one point didn't you? If we accept and embrace new people rather than shun them, they might be more inclined to treat others with the respect that you probably expect out of them. 3. POSITIVITY - I don't know how this got lost, but what's with all the negativity at parties nowadays? It seems like everyone seems to be holding a grudge against someone or some group of people. Again, this goes hand in hand with item 2 above, but keeping a positive vibe only adds to a party. Yeah, newbies will always exist, as do people who maybe aren't as core of ravers as others, but spreading negativity about them only kills the vibe of a party. From a promoter: “My $.02 from a promoter who has shown he cares (I hope). I love throwing events, because the smiles I see make me happy. I have been in music in many capacities my whole life (since I was 12 as a pro), rafeing is nothing new, it is something still new to me. I do love the feeling though when the vibe is right and the kids are dancing. Now here's the bad parts you may or may not know. Getting ANY venue is damn difficult. I hate charging what seems like a lot of money, but some venue owners are demanding huge chunks of coin to throw events. The Library was originally used as a counter for that. It was never intended to be used nearly as much as it was, and for now anyway, it is closed. I plan on a couple more events and I am done, not because I don't love doing it, but because it is burning me out pretty damn quickly. The demands of the kids for new and better parties, and the demands of the old school ravers to follow their lead has taken it's toll. I want to see you kids now take it the direction you want it to go. But it takes ownership and a willingness to make it work. Volunteer to help, offer your time for design, decorations and theming. All of this will pay off in bigger and better shows. Quit accepting half assed permitted and UG events if you don't like what they represent. Spend your $$ wisely and find people putting on what you want to see. Sure it may mean a month or more between events, but the events will be GOOD! Even though I am leaving I am giving NM78 to a few of my friends to keep it alive, but it's up to you to help them move it where you want it to go. So now the ball is in your court. I know I'm old, but in my head I'm still 20 years old playing out for the first time before each and every show. If you know me you know my love an excitement, if you don't then find it in your heart to do it, and make it better for everyone.” In the end: I don't get why you all get all so bent on labeling yourself when you talk about rave. You can call yourself Old Timer and list off all the shit you have participated in. you can call us Newbies none of it means anything okay. A rave is just a party where people go to for fun. Who give a shit about anything else as long as you have fun that's all that matter. Look at yourself and your arguments. YOU are the problem, not US. Let’s move FORWARD, instead of bitching how bad it was in the past. Until you take the time to realize your own obnoxious judgments, misplaced insults, and lack of care for the MODERN scene except pointing out its faults and saying how good it was before, you are just another bitter-jaded raver in my mind. in the year of 2008, my newbie ass gives more to the scene then your anger does. ################################################## ##### BTW all the stuff I just posted is from several different sources combined by me and in several spots I added my own stuff as well. I've got more somewhere....but i'm not on my own computer. If I ever want to take the time I'll create my own full Guide..although i actually think a guide in itself is paradoxical to what raving is. That being said....what i posted is a pretty good read for people seriously interested in analyzing the scene and moving it FORWARD in a good way. Last edited by Klover; 12.5.2008 at 2:29 pm. ah damn. im kinda sad because....after all that shit i posted there is no way he could post a good refute beyond bullshit, the events he threw, and name calling. i know you know him...so if you get to speak to him just let him know i carry no hard feelings. just that...his persona of bitter-jadedness in MY mind is what is killing raves. because...they are in the best position to fix everything wrong. anywho....what i posted should be a good ready for you all....hope this thread brought people some laughs as well. ![]() |

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] "When we come together for a ritual such as a Full Moon Rave on a remote beach, we are creating what author Hakim Bey calls a Temporary Autonomous Zone. A rave creates a TAZ of relatively short duration, only a few hours, but during that time, we are functioning at the level of _Community_. In the area that has been appropriated, a separate code of ethics and behavior can be enacted." --- Eventually, collectives that modeled their parties after TAZ began to die out, and were replaced by promoters that took the focus away from community. There are still remnants left, a handful of crews and things like, uh...Burning Man, but the only thing in life that is consistent is change. So, change happens, for better or worse, and I'm fine with it. Klover, I think you talk too much. And you think too much. And your posts don't make nearly the amount of sense you think they do. Maybe that's why "fruend" was ribbing you. Whatever, I've spent too much attention on this thread. Take it easy. |

My bad my bad, I meant IMO he is not the founder of 'rave' idealism and structure.
TAZ(as a movement/way of looking at it) does raise great views. i agree with most of them. But they come much later then the rave scene actually started...TAZ came out in 1991. Raves in the UK in 1978 had the same meaning as his writings. get what i am saying? As for the amount i write and think? meh. anyone who knows me and sees me at events knows im just there in the end to have a good time, just like the end of those posts state. I just dance my ass off, meet new people, and listen to the music. ![]() |

The thing is, with improper grammar you sound like a prepubescent child. While, yes, there are some floating around, at least the people I know that are under 16 (you know who you are, and you're all awesome in my book) can type, spell, and make coherent sentences. My question is what the fuck prompted you to go to a used car dealership to ask for MDMA? I mean... why? That's completely unrelated and just feels out of the blue. Like asking someone for the time of the day in Denmark. Either way, I think it's all made up and you're just trying to give everyone a good laugh. If not, then you might want rethink some parts of your life, or perhaps hold off for a little while. -TC |
