Parties used to be full of intellectuals. College students, artists, musicians etc. who came to parties as a distraction from their busy lives, and to express their talents in a free space. Drugs were present, but always an accessory and not the basis of the community.

They base their entire community on getting as fucked up, as soon as possible, and as young as they can. There is no thought or drive behind their actions other than to make sure they have a good "trip."
You want to improve the scene?
Lock down the parties, kick out everyone under 18, enforce a dress code, push a culture based on something other than the most recent pressed pill, and purge the community of people who are only here because it's the only place that doesn't maintain basic standards.
Of course this isn't going to happen...so effectively yes...then scene is dead.
Get over it and move on.

um excuse me but im 18 graduated, on my way to college, and i really love going to raves (drugs not included), so i'd apreciate not being totally degraded as the majority of party goers over the internet. So i say the few that are knowledgeable about the subculture should run with it and maybe even try to teach other more ignorant people to embrace the culture that you love so much(although some times i sense that the elitist few that claim to know so much about the old scene, don't really want any of the noobs to come into "their" scene, they would rather say how e-tarded and immature they are over the internet).
I think the primary reason kids dress up so skanky is because they go to their first rave and see half the people half naked so they figure it is acceptable. Maybe if they saw more artsy, intellectuals they would follow in suit. just my $.02
by the way this thread is really interesting i'm learning a lot, also i agree with chunkylover about the 18+, any younger is just plain too young.
i hope nothing i wrote offended anyone, but you never know it is kinda hard to interpret one's intent when they are typing
