RENEGADES:
BITD my crew used to use Navy satellite software to scout spots from the air and then drive to them to give them the once over face to face. We NEVER got busted at any of those outdoor spots. Without having gotten the heads up from any veterans around here, I managed to locate almost all of the "classic" spots via Google Earth in an afternoon. But finding your own spots is definately the way to go and I wouldn't worry about making people have to drive a bit to get there...the people that will go the extra mile are better quality IMHO anyway. Quality not quantity; start small, hone your skills, then grow if you feel comforatble. INDOOR: Good luck. New indoor venues are tough to find...but not impossible. Actually, you should hit me up. I've got a place but just cannot afford it. It is not a blown up spot, and there few boundaries for what the dude will go for...it just a little sketchy... ![]() Just let me play there ![]() |

this is the way i see it...
1990 ravers said it was dead in 1994 1994 ravers said it was dead in 1998 1998 ravers said it was dead in 2002 2002 ravers said it was dead in 2007 conclusion: the power of raving never changes, people just get bored |

kenny you guys are definately taking the right steps to make the scene better, so don't let any negative critism get to you. listen to constructive cristism from those who really want to help and do what you are already doing, and i think you will be really pleased with the outcome. and i agree ravers get jaded sometimes and then the scene is "Dead" but i think it's about to get really good |

Actually before they called you ravers...
There was punk, 1975 punks like me never left it, we just watch it morph. Punk has been declared dead so many times I quit counting, yet Gilman seems to have a lot of packed shows. Raving and techno grew out of the punk scene to a large degree. Sure there was disco, but ravers have a more direct line to Joy Division, Ministry, Depeche Mode (and Yaz), and The Damned than to Donna Summers or Chic. I remember seeing great iconic bands like KMFDM or Sisters of Mercy, and as early as 1984 having people tell me it was over then. Duran Duran and Madonna ruined it. But no, it just went underground. The thing I don't get today? WTF? Why don't all the related groups have parties together. Goths, punks, ravers, Sharps, mods, you should all be sharing like we/they did. It gave us power and a community we could all get each other's backs. Now it's all a bunch of shattered groups that really need to be rejoined and make the whole scene strong again. We need to recognize that there are straight edge punks and Loli Goths to name a few disparate groups. When we find a common ground, then fucking all jump together... Sorry, just my $.02 |

im not trying to disrespect, but i think you are the one that needs to let it be. i mean if there are people out there that are trying to make the scene better then let them, and they will have people like me and all the ravers i know to support them. You don't need to be so negative i mean you being negative isn't going to do anything than make them want to try harder. and you are just wasting your breath. you could have chosen to not respond to this thread, because it obviously is something you don't agree with, and we would totally respect your decision to not support the scene. but why must you always try to bring everyone down just because you are jaded, and cant have fun at parties anymore. like i said im not trying to be disrespectful, but get over yourself manplur |

Larry Levan? Todd Terry? Knuckles? I feel love by Donna Summer? Cybotron? Mr. Fingers? Adonis? These artists were so NOT listening to punk, i can assure you, and many are considered directly responsible for developing the sound called "House" which later developed into techno. House music was developing simultaneously to punk in a whole different environment and embraced by a totally different crowd. I think you should check your sources because I don't think you've got a view of the whole story.

Now in case you hadn't noticed I am trying to keep the thugs out, and still am putting my money where my mouth is. Good thing too. While my last soiree was far from a financial success, it did open the doors to a new LEGAL venue, and also opened up several others who were leery. They saw this crowd only in terms of hyphy (hey, not me saying that, but several venue owners). Now that's not a problem. We have been invited with open arms. Zoopy (a band that reminds me of a sick mating of Gwar, Muppets and Ministry) also will be playing a show too. Opening and hopefully joining us to a few new scenes at the same time. I guess that's all for now... |

The more people talk about raving as a "Scene" and a "Culture", the less fun it becomes. Sure we got our PLUR and just that overall great vibe that everyone is just friendly & chill, but we should just fucking enjoy it for what its worth and stop critiquing & critisizing everything about it. Theres always gonna be problems no matter what ya do.
I mean comeon "how hard is enjoying music supposed to be" right? ![]() |
