This member is the original thread starter. Default The "Scene"

So I dont post too often on here, but im always reading, and im seeing a recurring theme. The constant bickering and arguing over the "scene". Now i havent been raving for long, coming up on my one year anniversary soon, but in my opinion our "scene" is great. Maybe its "not what it used to be", but does that really matter? We all have fun, we all dance, and we all have a common goal, a damn good time with the people we enjoy being around, and i think that we accomplish that quite well here in the bay. While parties getting shut down and issues with permits and "underground parties" and all this hubbub continue to swarm on the boards, we seem to forget that its not about what deterrs our goal, but whats happening next, and how much fun THAT one will be. At the end of one party, the roll call for the next is up and running and already has a list ten miles long. So while the "scene" may not be what it used to, i think we should stop lamenting on how good it used to be, and instead focus our efforts on making it better for the people who are just starting. Personally if i came to the boards reading about how good things used to be and how much they suck now id be real hesitant to introduce myself to this life, feeling like ive missed the boat and the good part is all over. Rather id like to come to a place that is excited for what were doing NOW, and not what has been done in the past. While some of you dont nessesarily like all the "newbies and noveltists", werent we all new and scared once? I remember my first rave i was petrified, but amazed at the same time, and i wanted to see more. So i dont know if i can call myself an "experienced" raver now, but maybe the kids that are coming in now are the solution. Maybe they can bring the energy to revitalize what weve been looking for, maybe they have new insights to what a rave experience can be. Dont tell them it sucks now and it used to be good, tell them, they can make it better with whatever positive energy they have. I dunno, my two cents on my observations in the boards, thats all.

SNIP!

Maybe they (newbies) can bring the energy to revitalize what weve been looking for, maybe they have new insights to what a rave experience can be. Dont tell them it sucks now and it used to be good, tell them, they can make it better with whatever positive energy they have.
Well said. I've been involved at some level or another for a long time, and things HAVE changed. However, that's not to say that they are better or worse...just different ...but in a similar kind of way.

New experiences are inevitably going to shine in comparison to later experiences of the same thing. So once your "Rave Virginity" is gone, it'll never be like the first experience.

But I've said it before, NOW is the important aspect. Are you happy with what's going on this minute? Cause that's all that matters.

Change is the only constant..people change, music changes, the scene changes...but there is always going to be a current of continuity back to the origins and the previous manifestations of what we do....

I can trace our lineage back through to tribal cultures...we're just reinventing the wheel. So the "Scene" from that perspective, I don't think, will ever "Die"...it just changes outfits...changes names...changes the sound track.. but it's all one line going back into history to the dawn of music and celebration itself. Somthing so inherant that it can never die...it is a part of HUMAN culture as much as it is part of rave culture.

That's what I saw the first rave I went to...my true lineage back to the beginning of culture and society. That's why I rave at all, it is the shamans dance celebrating life.
