The next thread about DRUG USE!

It seems these threads about safe drug use have been poppin' up on here like crazy these past few days. Because I'm a prick here's my two or three cents. First off, let's all agree that there is no 100% safe way to do any drug. Hell eating a plate of steak and spinach doesn't even guarantee a fully safe experience. Moderation, knowledge, self-honesty and responsibility are key in everything, even spinach. Continuing on...Drugs are like colors, there is no one best drug. some people like pink, some like blue and some like clear, that's just the way it is. Saying one drug is better is a pretty general statement. All of our body chemistry is different and we all react in different ways to different things, even (especially?) sober.

So if we can't talk about "betterness" what should we talk about? Well it seems this debate is generally based around safety, and the relationship between ecstasy and Alcohol. In 2000, a year in which ecstasy use was at one it its highest points, ecstasy killed about 2 people for every 100,000 that would use. This is made look quite small by the 50 deaths per 100K users of Alcohol, and made look infinitesimal by tobacco 400 deaths per 100k.From these numbers it's pretty clear to see that alcohol kills more than ecstasy. Recently in fact, the British Surgeon General cited a study that showed alchohol to be the "#5" most dangerous drug to the UK (of the top 20) while ecstasy falls in at #18 calling it even more benign than Ganja, which showed up at #11 (go figure)

So let's all drop pills like tic-tacs and dance around in our skivvies! Not really. While it don't kill ya, and there are NUMEROUS success stories surrounding MDMA the jury is still out. We've had decades to study alcohol, and owing to our wonderfully swift DEA have not been able to study MDMA in much of an objective way. The UK and Germany have done far more research however and the results look promising, but even so caution must be in the forefront of our minds, and while it's not scientific we've all met that one kid who's been way too fucked up for way too long and can't remember his own hair color on a day-to-day basis.

If you managed to sit through all of that go grab a beer, you deserve it. Shit, grab an 8-ball, you're keg of GHB and a 45 year old prostitute for all I care, what you put in your body is your own choice. What I would hope that we can all agree on is it ALL comes down to is just a little bit of discretion. If you're really considering drinking that fifteenth beer or dropping that 5th pill because things just aren't fun enough, maybe it's time to step back and figure out whats keeping you from enjoying yourself.
