hmmm... from what i've heard, the shit that went down last weekend was pretty fucked up. that being said, it still seems a little ridiculous that people are reacting this way. sure. what those guys did was totally wrong. but, i mean, honestly, how often does this shit happen? the way things were going seemed fine to me. people got a fairly safe environment to party in. to be realistic, if one were to use past experiences as any sort of reference into a possible future, the odds of this happening again are fairly slim. if you find five bucks on the ground, you aren't going to return to the same spot everyday expecting to find five bucks on the ground. the sensible thing to do would be to keep throwing parties. if more crews start to show up and cause problems, then it'd be a good idea to beef up security or even shut down a venue for a month or so. as it stands, this is just ordinary, run of the mill, bad luck.
and exactly what measures do they plan on taking to make these parties more safe? are you going to have hyphy detectors or something? there was no way of predicting what happened, and if there is no way of predicting, it there is no way of preventing. in other words, there is nothing any of us can do about this shit. so fuck it, lets just party. |

[a/QUOTE] As much as I agree, at the same time most bay area ravers aren't subjected to this on a normal basis. I used to be a huge metal head (still am) and I've gotten the shit kicked out of me and knocked out from moshing. To anyone who has been around that sort of thing before it's nothing abnormal. The reason why it's fucked up is because it was 5 guys beating on girls. I don't know what could possess them to do that, I know I don't have it in me to hit a girl. Regardless, it's the fact that the area (oakland) is crowded with this, and the venues (the library and CH if Spastic was to be held there) are pretty close to each other as well. Personally, I can agree with shutting down the library for a couple weeks, let everyone get their shit straightened out, then add another 2 guards to walk around inside (the place is tiny if you haven't been there). That would have been completely fine. Hell, charge me $6 to get in, i'm fine with that. As far as spastic, well the postponement was better then flat out canceling. If the same thing happens (allocate 2 guards to each room) then it'll be fine. The real issue is getting people to be comfortable with the library again. If/when it does start back up, people will be hesitant to go. -TC |

Unless you were there which i know many were not. Please don't say let's just party again and fuck safety. I was one of the girls who got socked at Carlos's B-day party and got a busted lip. Shit I go to 924 gilman all the time its around the corner from my house. I have many of scars from mossing. The library needs to chill out for a little its over used. The guys who were fighting definately said that they were going to come back with guns and shit so i wouldn't be surprized if they drive by every night in the neighborhood looking for a party. Supposed you are outside when they choose to fire their gun? how does that look on the promoter that someone got shot at a party when they could've held off for 2 weekends?
Amelia P.S. Hope to see everyone at make-up for Spastic Children!! |

I wasn't furious with the people THROWING spastic, nor was I expecting anything back from them- what I meant was, the people who started all that shit better be fixin to pay - not in a money wise sense . I really appreiciate that they didn't do spastic after that stuff happened. They were watching out for everybody and I respect that. I'm really sorry for how things came across before, and I'll be sure to word things more carefully next time. |
