Personally, from what I know about the situation, I do not support the Zappatistas. I know that the crew is not "bad" per se, however, last I knew, they still had not repaired the damage from their last fiasco with DJ's not getting paid, etc...etc...Perhaps this is a benefit party for that cause but, I'll have to wait and see. Regardless of intentions, action speaks, so even a good faith offering is appreciated.

I once got chumped by a promoter, her party did considerably well (500 people at $25 a head, or about $12,500) and somehow she was unable to pay me the contractually obligated $150, along with like seven other DJ's. Of course there was a story that went along about her partner taking the profits, etc...but that was not my problem, and it was her that hired me. But the headliner and his whole crew got paid, plus hotel, plus plane tickets, plus plus plus...Anyway she tried to make it up to me whenever she could...she was just in a tough situation, but she tried for a long time to resolve it amicably. Just sucks to not only NOT get paid but to also incur all the expenses that can go along with going to play somewhere. When you're counting on something and it fails through AND you have to cover those expenses that you though would be paid for by the $$$ from the show, it sucks big sweaty balls.

I've also had a partner/venue owner rip me off (back out last minute, steal my deposit on the space and cancel the event like three days before it, etc.) and that sucks too, but it was MY name on the contract and so I burned bridges with great connections because someone else fucked with my shit. It sucks both ways. However, I paid the talent their full contractual amount because I know they were counting on that cash, didn't book in other places because I booked them, and then got screwed. So I had to pay them out of pocket (like $500 each!!)...but i did it none the less because it was the right thing to do, as painful for my bank account as it was.

So, just on principle, until the people affected feel contented by the Zappa's efforts to resolve the issue, I will not be supporting them.

i do know what you are talking about actually - however, i am still planning on going to the party; there are DJ's who i would really enjoy seeing and i think that so long as zapas doesn't do what they did before, we should all move on and see what they are capable of doing by way of parties.

AND its going to be zobots birthday weekend! so of course, we have to party like crazy-ass disco whores!

yeah idiotbox i know what you talkin about how they skipped out on pay for the djs i heard all about that shit, there was alot of drama and the djs basically got fucked over like every which way but iono you gotta give things one more try and hope for the best i mean theres always a second chance ...

One more chance is fine, maybe two even, but people got to step up and make an effort. Empty promises are one thing, actual actions are another.

Like I said, it certainly is not a black list on the entire crew or any affiliates, but shit, I just hope shit gets resolved and they make good. Once that occurs, sure I'll hit up there events.
