Raves were never about some kind of image, fashion statement, or highschool fad that you can throw around. Its supposed to be about the music, making new friends, and just letting all your inhibitions go. Never about who has the best outfit or has been to the most raves. By comparing yourselves to others like that, isnt that defeating the entire purpose of PLUR?

True its all in good fun, but its understandable why alot of people are against the whole 'raver fashion' thing.

I think kandi started out as a good idea - trade it with others to remember a new friend you made or as a reminder of a kickass party. But nowadays you get people who just make 500 bracelets at home just for themselves to look cool and think they're super ravecool because they look like a hardcore kandikid. "What do you mean TRADE them? I just spent all last night making these!"
lol the "oontz oontz" thing is all too true.
anyway, i totally get it now, thanks guys. it's not anything towards kandi kids, its against the lame ass posers. that sucks about people like that, i haven't come across anyone who didn't wanna trade kandi cause it took too long or wahtever. the ones that take me the longest, or the ones with the most expensive beads, i like to give to the people who made my rave experience better. or someone i reallly want to remember me. i love it when i find people and be able to say HEY!! i gave you that one!! and visa versa. i think it creates bonds between us, at least it does for me.

pac man Re: Kandi kids

I still wear big ass pants... everywhere, even to work on my day off to pick up my check... it's a comfort thing, and giant pants are fucking comfortable.

Candy/Kandy/Kandi used to mean something different to me than it means now. I've never worn more than 5-6 bracelets and a necklace... any more than that and the junglist in me starts screaming at me before i check out the DnB room. i like dozens and dozens of genres of music, most of which aren't electronic, so i don't like that if i wear candy i get clumped into a group, almost half of which is comprised of people to which I do not wish to me compared, for various reasons.

I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH TRADING KANDI IF YOU'RE GOING TO WEAR IT.
I may not go out of my way to trade candy at a party, but I will never turn someone down eager to trade.

Trippendicular 4 candy story- I was wear a hoodie covered with a pac-man maze print, and this lil guy with kandy up to his shoulders stopped me and gave me Pac-Man candy w/2 rubber pac-man beads the size of golf-balls and letter cubes spelling out wokka wokka. Best piece of candy I've gotten since my first... sorry the one I gave you afterwards wasn't up to par. if anybody knows the guy, holla at me or thank him for me. AND WHERE WAS THIS BRACELET AT PAC-MAN? that's what I wanna know.

Now I miss Pac-Man..... shit........

i consider myself a kandi kid and to each and every party i like to bring at least 20 peices to give//trade away, just cos it makes ppls nites! one of the best parts of raving for me is making sumones nite with a kandi i give them, espicially folks who dont have too many, but want more.

i have never heard/meet a kandi kid who doznt trade kandi... thats crazyness.... that is strange to me that ppl make a gazillion pices but dznt want to give any out.... where da plur at yo??

Re: Kandi kids

When I started raving back in 99, I would make kandi and trade it with new friends i made to remember them.

now days, I usually give it to 1st time ravers, like if it's their first party. I want to make sure I make thier 1st rave experience a good one.

I usually show up to a rave with a crap load of kanid and by the end of the night, it's pretty much all gone.

nothing wrong with spreading joy.

Re: Kandi kids

I've been raving since 99...and even before my days. Raves have never been subtle. If you want subtle...go to a club. Remember, raves were drived from the acid house movement of the 80s...

Originally, candy had 2 functions:

the visual effect: Some beads will also be UV reactive and glow in the dark. They're noticable. They're colorful, they're fun!

for friendship: second function of kandi is a gift that a raver will give or swap with new friends, and new ravers they have just met. I still have 8 year old "kandi" from my first rave.

I personally don't have a problem with "kandi kids". and I really don't know why people give them so much shit.

same goes for guys in tight pants...which is kinda hot imo
Weather or not people are doing this for show, or for the love of raving...I don't care. It's their perogotive.

Re: Kandi kids

well to go back to the point of the topic.. .uhh I have gotten shit from people just beacause most people are judgmental. I would consider myself a kandi kid.. .and being one I would say I am a very open person and don't have a large care for my own fashion. I delve more into gothic then anything. I just wear whatever I liek and whatever people see that's fine. Mostly people that judge it are just the conservative stick up the ass people that will never be as happy as me and never get to try incredible new and wonderful things. So to the people that give kandi kids shit... i feel sorry for them. haha...

Mmmm... and on to other points... I had no idea there were people that brought kandi to raves they made and wouldnt give it away... that's so..... rediculous. I give away EVERYTHING I make and maybe a little more. haha I got some girl angry at me cause I gave away the kandi she made me. :P but oh well... I just like giving it to people and making them happy. I keep the ones with awesome memories or that look amazing. but nothing that I myself have made. In fact lately I've been making weird and unique kandi to make sure each one I give out will make each person really appreciate it. It's about socializing more then the look for me. : )

haha... the first time I made kandi was the first time I did Acid at the first rave house I ever went to right before my first rave.... so all in all it was just another step into the better part of my life so far.

yay kandi kids? I forgot where I was going with everything... just putting my thoughts it :P
