why do some people have such strong reservations against kandi kids? i've always found friends in them, of course being one myself, i love kandi kids!!
since they generally just want to be friends with everyone, i don't see what some people's problems are. just curious. |

How would you define a kandi kid these days?
Because I make kandi. Give it out, receive it, does that make me a kandi kid? I dont get picked on. So eh. Wha? |

By wearing Kandi, binkies, target underwear, etc. you present the rave scene in the form of an 'image'. You look like a raver, you get stereotyped as one - a drug addicted nerd lowlife that listens to oontz oontz techno music. Raves were never about some kind of image, fashion statement, or highschool fad that you can throw around. Its supposed to be about the music, making new friends, and just letting all your inhibitions go. Never about who has the best outfit or has been to the most raves. By comparing yourselves to others like that, isnt that defeating the entire purpose of PLUR?
True its all in good fun, but its understandable why alot of people are against the whole 'raver fashion' thing. I think kandi started out as a good idea - trade it with others to remember a new friend you made or as a reminder of a kickass party. But nowadays you get people who just make 500 bracelets at home just for themselves to look cool and think they're super ravecool because they look like a hardcore kandikid. "What do you mean TRADE them? I just spent all last night making these!" |

The issue is a lot of Kandi Kids don't have meaning behind their beads. I have seen people refuse to give away a piece they made because it's just too cool to give away. It's plastic people! Gone are the times when heart was put into it where you made something funky and amazing so that when you went to the party that night you could give it away as a reminder of who you were. They are suppose to represent unbelievable experiences and moments you share with new and old friends. People get annoyed with kandi kids because the bulk of them do it for fashion when that isn't its intended purpose. I am reminded of SLC Punk as we talk about this. Some people follow a scene for fashion and other have heart. Posers in any scene are annoying. Whatever you are be hard core and true about it and you won't get too much shit for it. And if you do at least you can back yourself up.

Eh, there will always be that one kandi I will make that I like or spent more money on for the beads but when I am at a rave, meeting people, my mind forgets that and I give it away. I love to receive kandi from people because its not my work and its different usually.
But there is always that one person covered in kandi giving it away and expecting a trade without even talking to me, so I make whimpy kandi for kandi collectors.. Hmmm. BEADS.. just beads. I dont know. I always thought the average kandi kid was dect. out in old school cartoons and covered in beads and those huge pants and just like a rainbow shit them out all fuzzy.. |

They are just beads and are meant to give away. What you are talking about is an old shcool kandi kid that is all decked out in the gear. honestly i wish more ravers would break out the baggy pants and wear the gear. but old school raving is hard to find these days. in the end it doesn't matter. raves bring us all together and are fucking AWESOME!!!! ![]() ![]() PS if you aren't sure what kind of raver you are then you are having a major identity crisis. seek help! |

Eh, I'm new to the scene, and I was instructed to bring Kandi as a social thing. I wasn't told how much or little to bring, so I came to my first rave decked out in a fairly large amount of it. Still not sure where I fall in, within the culture, but I like the idea of trading/giving away my wares.

I don't like the idea of trading kandi. If I want to give someone a gift, I don't expect them to give me one in return, and if someone wants to give me a piece of kandi, I don't want to feel obligated to give them something in return besides my love.
That being said, I think kandi is a great way to remember good parties and good people, and show people how much you like them. ![]() |

Bahahaha you could call them a few things, for the younger ones "prostitots" seems the most fitting.
