I might be going out on a limb here but, if there's weed involved, you might have the culprit.
They did a study at harvard where they got a bunch of students stoned while they were studying for a test. The students who took the test stoned passed with flying colors, the students who took the test straight did poorly...they had a hard time remembering what they studied, as if the connection between those two states of consciouness is not well linked. So take note of if you don't remember things that happened when you were high while you are straight and visa versa. Second, Ginko "Increases peripheral capilary blood flow" which, supposedly means that your brain gets more oxygen and hence, functions better. But the conclusiveness of many of these "claims not evaluated by the FDA" are spotty at best. This is from the same culture that thinks powdered goat horn gives you bigger erections...so, caveat emptor. |

I think one thing thats always helped me is getting together with a friend, picking a book and both reading it, and deciding to meet up in a week or two and talking about it. This is a very natural kinda of memory practice, it's fun and you get to be with your friend(s). You'll be surprised how much your vocabulary will improve talking with your friend.
Also, taking up new hobbies/learning new things (while this may seem backwards) always keeps the brain fresh. Hate aritchmatic? do some! abhore chemistry? Go buy an overpriced chemistry book! And in a more touchy feely way, just by making a concious effort to learn will give your mind the approval it needs to start remembering stuff. |

a couple months off the pills does a mind goooood
i dont know about a ravelinks book club, but there are PLENTY of intellectually based message boards to do with books and any other number of things. but challenging yourself to learn something, then calling it to mind to talk about your opinion on it... VERY HEALTHY brain exercise. |

Im not saying youre taking anything, but I agree with laying off the pills. I know E can make you very unmotivated and uncreative.
Reading, doing logic puzzles and drawing or writing are all things I do to try and keep my mind sharp. Im also going to buy a DS and get Brain Age. Its a game to help work that brain of yours. Remember: If you dont use it, you lose it. For real. |

I also like to do mundane things like remember sequences of numbers, credit card number, social security, bank account, phone numbers, etc, to keep my memory sharp. I'm actually pretty good at remembering stuff these days too, although it is usually some useless factoid.
Such as, did you know that there are literally thousand of hallucinogenic plants growing all around the bay area? Though, many of them are part of the Solanacea family (related to potato and hot peppers) many of which were once used in "Witches Flying Oinment". The witches used to spread it on their brooms and masturbate with them to "Fly" to other realms and converse with the spirits of the underworld. |
