dont you hate it when you...
...in my case ive been recompiling my kernel because i kept missing some sata driver that had to be built in, and then i realized the install wasnt copying the new image to /boot!
i wasted 30 hours of compiling, asked everyone...i FINALLY registered on a forum and made this long post...10 minutes later i figured the problem out. let us all hear your stories!
