I can't say I could give you lessons. But maybe a little advice. The way I learned was watching different styles of DJ's. Seeing what they were doing. At first when I bought music I would buy stuff I know I heard out at first. That way you have some reference to what has already been done with that track and then try to recreate what was done. The best way to get good is practice, practice, practice. No matter how frustrating it gets and how pissed off you may get. Keep at it and practicing. Eventually you will get your own groove and style. But again keep practicing. No matter how good you think your mixes are getting. All DJ's will say that they know they can do better and try to take their mixing to new levels. Good Luck and happy mixing.

Well ur a chick, so gettin booked for parties shouldnt be hard at all. Just show some bewbz and ur good to go!
![]() On a serious note though, keep on practicing on your own and never give up! Check out some tutorial vids on youtube, or even check out this awesome book called "How to DJ Right: The Art & Science of playing records" by Bill Brewster & Frank Broughton. One of the Best DJing books there is, that gave me my own start. Not sure if SKILLS DJ Workshop in Berkeley still offers lessons, but it wouldnt hurt to call them up and see ![]() But anyways, what type of music would you like to spin? Who are some of your favorite producers/DJs? DJing isnt always about how well you can mix on the tables, but moreso your musical knowledge and HOW to use that to understand the crowd's moods and play 'the perfect song at the perfect time' :P Good luck on gettin started |

Disco,
I have a spare table if you wanna borrow it. I've been looking to get into spinning for a while. Had tables a while ago, but that was way before I ever had enough cash to actually buy records. I've been putting off getting anything since then because I'm afraid that I won't use them enough. I'd love some CDJ's though, then I have all 10k songs at my finger tips. However.... I always could dual laptop the bitch, not like i'm in any kind of lack or anything. Anyways, sorry to get off topic. Practice is definitely key. Even for the little amount of time I spent learning how to mix Hyphy and scratch, every time i worked on my techniques I grew a ton better. Just fuck around with them for a while, choose two completely opposite songs/albums and try to mix in a matter that sounds pretty good. Not to mention you always have R4ph and I to come over and offer advice ![]() -TC |

I would say stick with the CDJ's. It will be a lot cheaper. Vinyl is expensive. It usually costs $10 for 2 tracks. Usually only one of them are good. CD's you can burn from friends and what not.

Down the road if I think i'll use them to their full potential, I'll go out and buy some CDJ 800's or something. Throw on a pioneer mixer, and you're set. But yeah, I'd love to show you all of the (very very small amount) shit i know. -TC |
