Doodles: This cannot go to the supreme court since it was a state court decision. It is a state's rights issue. That said, the federal gov't is not currently recognizing gay marriages and thus gays would only recognized as married within california (and Massachusettes)
And for all the straight guys/girls out there who don't give a fuck about this decision because it doesn't affect you, I'M THRILLED THAT YOU LOOK AT IT THAT WAY! What the fuck do all those right wing bigots care about with what I do with my personal life? Its a free fucking country and its not going to affect them the slightest
In regards to the marriage/civil-unions debate... I agree that marriage is a religious event and only a church/temple/mosque should be allowed to determine who gets married at their ceremonies, as they are private institutions and do not have to deal with *silly* things like equality for all. However, that means that if you want to recognized in the eyes of the gov't you must join in a civil-union, open to anybody of any gender.
Now, if I could only find a hot raver boy, I'd head straight to the alter... please send applications to myspace address below
