Re: What fascinates you?
Right now I find Foucault very interesting. Out of all the philosophers and historians I've been studying this year, Foucault is one of the most interesting. He talks about how the history of dealing with madness, that is, the mentally unstable, has led to today's disciplinary society through the establishment of correctional institutions like the prison and insane asylums. He also talks about how there is no specific truth other than a society's descriptions of things-- a new discovery is simply a new description of an already existing object.
I guess I can be pretty existential about things. lately I've been in a bit of a rut because my mind keeps snapping back to that fact that time is running out and that I will die. That one day, today will be in the past and I'm wasting time and I will die. It's fascinating and depressing.
