I used to listen to Essential Mixes broadcasted in the UK filled with these types of blends, and only recently have I heard Mashups being rotated heavily in the club and rave scene (and doing supremely well with the downtown Los Angeles crowd)
I know this music not only blends Dance with Hip Hop, but Alternative/Rock, Ska, Doo Wop and others as well.
I just see it as sampling whole tracks of different genres, and speeding up the tempo to become suitable for a more energetic crowd bent on dancing.
I get the impression that people who listen to hip hop dislike that trance/techno sound. So are Mashups the beginnings of a bridge from Boom Bap/Radio rap onto the Electronic Dance Floor?
