no, legally they cannot search your car for no reason. they can look in the window with their flash lights from outside, but they need "probable cause."

probable cause can be a fluctuating situation. if they look in and see a pipe or if you look blazed or something that is probable cause. if you are drinking and driving that is probable cause. but if its just a regular traffic stop, they legally cannot if you have nothing out in the open for the oinker's eyes to see.

if they do ask you to get out of your car, be sure to lock and close the door behind you. if you leave the door open, that gives them the right to go inside!.. no probable cause necessary.
